Role Overview
In this role, you will develop sales opportunities by speaking with prospective and existing customers, understanding what they need to buy, and guiding them from enquiry to order. Your procurement experience will help you navigate purchasing requirements and work with internal teams to confirm pricing, availability, and delivery—supporting reliable service and lasting customer relationships.
Key Responsibilities
- Make outbound calls and respond to enquiries to qualify prospects, introduce relevant products or services, and create sales opportunities.
- Discuss customer specifications, quantities, budgets, purchasing schedules, and supplier requirements, including how these fit into their procurement process.
- Prepare and send quotations using approved pricing, then follow up to answer questions, secure decisions, and progress suitable opportunities to orders.
- Work with procurement and purchasing colleagues to check sourcing options, stock availability, lead times, and pricing; escalate requests outside your approval limits.
- Coordinate order details with stores, logistics, finance, and operations, keeping customers informed about dispatch, delivery, delays, or proposed substitutions.
- Maintain responsive customer communication, resolve routine concerns, refer complex issues to the appropriate team, and follow up after fulfilment.
- Keep accurate CRM or sales-tracker records of calls, contacts, requirements, quotations, orders, and next steps; maintain pipeline updates and prepare performance reports.
- Share relevant customer feedback, competitor observations, and recurring demand with colleagues, and suggest practical improvements to sales follow-up and administration.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Diploma or bachelor’s degree in procurement and supply chain management, purchasing and supplies management, sales and marketing, business administration, or a related discipline.
- At least 3–4 years of experience in telesales, inside sales, customer service, sales coordination, or a comparable customer-facing commercial role.
- A procurement or purchasing background, with practical knowledge of procurement cycles, requisitions, purchase orders, quotations, and supplier requirements.
- Experience preparing quotations, following up orders, coordinating with procurement teams or suppliers, and maintaining customer and sales records.
- Clear, professional telephone and written communication, with the ability to understand customer requirements and explain commercial information accurately.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office; experience with CRM, ERP, or sales-tracking systems is an advantage.
