Role Overview
This position sits within the Finance Department and is open to candidates based in either Mombasa or Nairobi. The Tax Accountant will take ownership of the company’s tax compliance cycle, from preparing returns to advising leadership on how new regulations affect tax liabilities. Day to day, you will review fiscal data, maintain corporate tax records, and work closely with both internal teams and external tax authorities to keep the business fully compliant while identifying ways to reduce tax exposure.
Key Responsibilities
- Build and refresh tax provision schedules, support data collection workflows, and keep the corporate tax database accurate and up to date.
- Prepare, submit, and settle all tax filings on time, ensuring no deadlines are missed and payments are processed correctly.
- Monitor compliance with Kenyan tax regulations and respond promptly to any changes in legal requirements.
- Act as the main point of contact for tax authorities on payment queries, audits, and correspondence.
- Analyse current tax positions and recommend practical strategies to improve cash flow and profit margins.
- Evaluate new and proposed tax legislation, then advise management on the likely impact for the organisation.
- Work with external consultants and tax experts to coordinate support, training, and advisory services for internal stakeholders.
- Develop risk management frameworks for tax and prepare detailed reports covering calculations, project tax analysis, provisions, and forecasts.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related discipline.
- Professional certification such as CPA, ACCA, or KESRA training is strongly preferred.
- At least four years of hands-on experience in tax accounting, auditing, consulting, or a similar role.
- Solid understanding of tax procedures, financial reporting standards, data analysis techniques, and cost control measures.
- Strong grasp of accounting and bookkeeping processes, with excellent attention to detail.
- Proven analytical skills and the ability to interpret complex fiscal data.
- Clear written and verbal communication skills, comfortable dealing with regulators and senior management alike.
- Comfortable using modern accounting software and eager to stay current with digital tools.
