Role Overview
The Storekeeper owns everything that happens to goods between the delivery bay and the department that requested them — verifying what arrives, safeguarding what is held, and releasing it against properly authorised paperwork. Sitting between Procurement, Finance and the culinary and Food & Beverage teams, this position is central to keeping food and beverage costs under control by preventing spoilage, shrinkage and unnecessary over-ordering. The role blends physical work on the storeroom floor with disciplined record-keeping, so it suits someone who is equally at home moving and checking stock as they are reconciling figures on screen.
Key Responsibilities
- Receive incoming deliveries and check quantities, specifications and quality against approved purchase orders and accompanying delivery documentation before accepting them.
- Inspect goods on arrival — including temperature, packaging condition and remaining shelf life — and escalate or reject anything that falls short of the required standard.
- Place stock in the correct storage areas (dry, chiller, freezer and chemical stores) with accurate labelling, sensible segregation and disciplined FIFO or FEFO rotation.
- Issue stock to culinary, Food & Beverage and other departments strictly against authorised requisitions, recording each movement as it happens.
- Keep the inventory or materials management system up to date, processing goods received notes, stock transfers and related invoice paperwork accurately and on time.
- Carry out routine stock counts and spot checks, investigate variances and reconcile physical quantities with system balances, reporting unresolved differences.
- Track reorder levels, slow-moving lines and near-expiry items, and flag shortages, excesses or emerging stock risks to Procurement.
- Maintain clean, orderly and hygienic stores and receiving areas, keeping equipment and storage spaces compliant with food safety and housekeeping standards.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Three or more years in a storekeeping or stores role, ideally gained in a hotel, restaurant or wider hospitality operation.
- A degree or diploma in purchasing and supplies management, supply chain management, logistics, procurement, business administration, hospitality management or a closely related discipline.
- A practical working understanding of inventory control and stock management principles.
- Hands-on familiarity with receiving, storage and issuing procedures.
- Experience handling LPOs, GRNs, requisitions, invoices and the supporting stock documentation.
- Demonstrated use of a materials or inventory management system.
- Comfortable with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
- Confident with numbers and able to reconcile physical stock against system records.
- Well-developed planning and organisational skills.
- Analytical and resourceful in diagnosing and resolving stock discrepancies.
- A meticulous eye for accuracy and detail.
- Sound judgement and practical common sense.
- Clear written and verbal communication skills.
- Able to collaborate effectively with Finance, Procurement, Culinary, Food & Beverage and other operational teams.
- Composed and efficient in a fast-paced hospitality environment.
- Willing to work hands-on in stores and receiving areas, including lifting and moving goods as required.
