Job Description

Role Overview

This role provides practical technical support to Sub-County Health Management Teams and local partners to improve the delivery of high-impact nutrition services in health facilities and communities. The postholder helps turn county and sub-county plans into coordinated activities, while monitoring service quality and progress for mothers, children and other programme participants.

Key Responsibilities

  • Work with county health departments and local partners to deliver High Impact Nutrition Interventions, including IMAM, MIYCN, IMAM Surge, BFCI and Family MUAC, across facility and community settings.
  • Develop monthly activity plans with the Sub-County Health Management Team, review results in regular meetings and agree practical follow-up actions.
  • Support rural facilities to establish referral pathways to hospitals and other services, working with hospital nutritionists, the Sub-County Nutrition Coordinator and health management teams.
  • Strengthen community-unit operations through community mobilisation, training, dialogue and routine engagement with community health promoters and assistants.
  • Coordinate with nutrition counterparts to monitor the availability of therapeutic commodities at health facilities, and help lead implementation of the sub-county’s costed health and nutrition work plan.
  • Contribute to nutrition assessments and coverage studies, including KPC and SMART surveys, and take part in joint supportive-supervision visits with government and partner teams.
  • Track programme outputs against monthly and quarterly plans, implement monitoring activities, analyse sub-county progress and identify areas requiring corrective action.
  • Document implementation experiences and lessons, prepare weekly briefs and periodic reports, contribute to donor reporting, and represent Concern in relevant sub-county forums and public health events.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Degree in Nutrition and Dietetics, or in Nursing with a strong nutrition background.
  • At least three years of experience in maternal and child health and nutrition programming, including work in both development and emergency settings.
  • Current registration or practising licence from KNDI or the Nursing Council, as applicable.
  • Strong clinical competence; knowledge of maternal and child health is an advantage.
  • Experience with Ministry of Health systems, especially at sub-county level, and the ability to work effectively with local partners in arid and semi-arid settings.
  • Knowledge of how to integrate cross-cutting concerns such as gender, HIV and AIDS, and disaster risk reduction into nutrition and public health programmes.
  • Strong communication, teamwork and report-writing skills, with the ability to organise work systematically, deliver results and adapt to changing priorities.
  • Demonstrated integrity, commitment to humanitarian principles and willingness to follow organisational standards and policies. Prior experience working or living in a target county is highly desirable.
  • Ability to spend extended periods in the field and work under pressure when required.

What We Offer / Why Join

The role offers the opportunity to work alongside public health teams and local partners to strengthen nutrition services at both community and facility level, while contributing to programme learning and humanitarian response when needed.
