Sonographer

Role Overview

You will operate ultrasound equipment to produce high-quality diagnostic images that directly guide clinical decisions for patients. Working alongside radiologists, physicians, and nursing staff, you will manage patient intake, perform scans, and ensure that every examination is completed safely, accurately, and with clear documentation. Your attention to detail and ability to communicate findings effectively will help the medical team deliver timely, confident care.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform a full range of diagnostic ultrasound examinations across abdominal, pelvic, obstetric, vascular, and soft-tissue applications, following established imaging protocols.
• Prepare patients for procedures by explaining the process, positioning them correctly, and addressing any concerns to reduce anxiety and ensure cooperation.
• Operate and calibrate ultrasound equipment daily, including routine quality checks, probe care, and troubleshooting minor technical issues as they arise.
• Review captured images in real time for clarity and diagnostic sufficiency, repeating scans where necessary and flagging any suspicious findings to the supervising radiologist.
• Maintain accurate and complete patient records, including imaging logs, procedure notes, and relevant clinical history, using the Health Management Information System.
• Follow strict infection control and radiation safety guidelines, ensuring a clean, safe environment for both patients and colleagues.
• Collaborate with other departments to schedule examinations, prioritise urgent cases, and relay results promptly to requesting clinicians.
• Participate in continuous professional development and department meetings to stay current with imaging techniques and safety regulations.

Requirements & Qualifications

• A Higher Diploma in Ultrasound and/or Radiology, or a Diploma in Medical Imaging Sciences from a recognised institution.
• At least one year of hands-on experience performing diagnostic ultrasound examinations in a clinical or hospital setting.
• Active registration and a valid licence from the Kenya Nuclear Regulatory Authority.
• Full membership with the Society of Radiography in Kenya (SORK) in good standing.
• Strong report-writing skills, capable of producing concise, accurate summaries of scan findings for medical records.
• Proficiency in computer use, particularly health information management systems and standard office software.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work calmly in a busy medical environment and show empathy to patients of all ages.
