Senior Software Engineer

Role Overview

As a Senior Software Engineer at Zeraki, you will design, build and operate backend services that support the company’s education technology products. You’ll work mainly with Java and Spring Boot, shaping service architecture, resolving complex engineering challenges and partnering with product, frontend and DevOps colleagues to deliver dependable systems.

The role combines substantial hands-on development with technical guidance for other engineers. Senior engineers who take on formal Tech Lead responsibilities are eligible for a Tech Lead allowance.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and implement secure, scalable backend services, APIs and system components using Java and Spring Boot.
• Turn evolving product needs into technical designs, implementation plans and clear service boundaries.
• Make and explain architectural choices, weighing performance, reliability, scalability and maintainability.
• Define effective API and data contracts with Angular frontend engineers and other teams.
• Write and review production code, strengthen testing and code-quality practices, and address technical debt and performance constraints.
• Take ownership of multi-sprint initiatives, coordinate engineering work, identify delivery risks and help resolve them.
• Work with DevOps on deployment pipelines and collaborate across teams to support reliable end-to-end releases.
• Support incident response and follow-up reviews; mentor colleagues, assist with onboarding and contribute to hiring.

Requirements & Qualifications

• At least five years of backend engineering experience.
• Strong practical experience with Java and Spring Boot.
• Experience designing or developing distributed systems, REST APIs and backend service architectures.
• Working knowledge of SQL and NoSQL databases.
• Familiarity with cloud services and CI/CD configuration.
• Working understanding of Angular concepts sufficient to collaborate on frontend-backend integration.
• Demonstrated ability to lead technical work, take ownership of complex delivery and make pragmatic engineering decisions.
• Clear communication skills and an interest in mentoring other engineers.
