Role Overview
As a DevOps engineer, you will connect software development with reliable day-to-day operations, helping teams plan, build, test, deploy, and support cloud-hosted products. You’ll improve the delivery pipeline and production systems while investigating issues that affect application performance, customer experience, and project goals.
Key Responsibilities
- Translate customer needs and project KPIs into practical infrastructure, delivery, and operational improvements.
- Build and maintain cloud infrastructure, development environments, and the tools teams use to test and release software.
- Design and improve CI/CD workflows, including the selection and use of suitable pipeline tools.
- Automate infrastructure and recurring operational work with Ansible and infrastructure-as-code tools.
- Support production applications running in containers and Kubernetes, and help maintain their deployment and support processes.
- Review and troubleshoot application and infrastructure issues, trace root causes, and document findings and corrective actions.
- Monitor service health, customer experience, and delivery KPIs; identify risks and opportunities to improve reliability and performance.
- Coordinate with developers, customers, stakeholders, and team members, provide progress updates, and mentor colleagues where appropriate.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Strong experience administering Linux systems, particularly Ubuntu or Debian, and working confidently in a Unix shell.
- Solid understanding of networking concepts and protocols, including TCP/IP, UDP, ICMP, HTTP(S), DNS, DHCP, and SMTP.
- Practical experience with Docker, LXD, or containerd, plus experience operating production workloads on Kubernetes.
- Proficiency with Git and a hosted platform such as GitLab, GitHub, or Bitbucket; experience with CI/CD systems such as GitLab CI/CD, GitHub Actions, or CircleCI.
- Strong database knowledge, especially PostgreSQL.
- Hands-on cloud experience with AWS or Google Cloud Platform, including relevant compute, storage, serverless, Kubernetes, and messaging services.
- Strong Ansible skills, including creating, modifying, and running playbooks; experience with Terraform, Pulumi, CloudFormation, or similar infrastructure-as-code tools.
- Software engineering experience in at least one language used in the environment, ideally Python or Go. Familiarity with Django or another Python framework, REST or GraphQL APIs, and NGINX is valuable.
- Ability to investigate complex issues across an application stack, use monitoring and error-tracking tools such as Sentry, and produce clear root-cause analyses.
- Experience in DevOps or site reliability work. The source does not specify a required number of years or a formal education level.
