Role Overview
This is a corporate banking relationship management role with a defined industrial-sector focus, where the holder owns a portfolio of industrial clients end to end — originating deals, structuring and defending credit proposals, and growing the revenue and balance sheet contribution that portfolio makes. Day to day it means being the bank's primary face to those clients while simultaneously acting as the first line of defence on credit quality. The role matters because both the growth numbers and the health of the lending book rest largely on this person's commercial judgement and how well they know each client's business.
Key Responsibilities
- Convert the sector's strategy and the division's wider objectives into a working annual plan for the assigned portfolio, and take ownership of the results against it — revenue, fees and commissions, profit before tax, asset and liability growth, and new customer acquisition.
- Execute transactions for clients in line with agreed strategic account plans, guiding deals from initial discussion through credit approval to drawdown.
- Run sales growth campaigns jointly with internal partners such as sector teams, product management, bancassurance and capital, aligning activity so shared targets are met rather than competed over.
- Hold and deepen relationships at the appropriate senior level within client organisations, actively cultivating long-term interest in the bank rather than transactional contact.
- Monitor referral and transaction activity daily so that each client's facilities stay within the limits and parameters set by the bank.
- Exercise informed discretion on account conduct, drawing on a detailed working knowledge of what each client is actually doing operationally and financially.
- Prepare and submit credit proposals that meet the credit policy's requirements for both quality and timeliness.
- Manage the assigned portfolio so that non-performing loans and portfolio-at-risk measures remain within agreed thresholds.
