Job Description

Role Overview

You will lead instructional quality across the school by taking full ownership of curriculum mapping, classroom standards, and teacher development. Day to day, you will design planning templates, observe classrooms, assess student and teacher progress, and coach educators to elevate their practice. Partnering closely with the Founding Head, you will also shape the teaching team through hiring decisions and model lessons, ensuring every classroom reflects the school’s Montessori-aligned early childhood approach.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain a coherent curriculum map that spans all early childhood classrooms, ensuring alignment with the school’s educational philosophy.
  • Define and communicate clear classroom standards for environment, daily routine, instructional practice, and student engagement.
  • Create planning templates and documentation tools that help teachers prepare purposeful, child-centered lessons efficiently.
  • Conduct regular classroom observations using a structured, constructive lens, and turn insights into actionable feedback.
  • Design and oversee assessment systems that track each child’s developmental progress and inform curriculum adjustments.
  • Provide one-on-one and small-group teacher coaching that builds practical skills in classroom management, lesson presentation, and differentiation.
  • Collaborate with the Founding Head on teacher selection by reviewing candidates, planning demonstration lessons, and evaluating instructional readiness.
  • Lead in-house professional development sessions that strengthen the faculty’s understanding of child development and Montessori practice.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Deep grounding in early childhood development, including cognitive, social-emotional, and physical milestones from infancy through preschool age.
  • Montessori experience is highly desirable, including direct work in a prepared environment and familiarity with multi-age groupings.
  • Proven classroom teaching experience in early childhood settings, with at least several years as a lead teacher or equivalent.
  • Evidence of effective adult coaching or mentoring, with an ability to give feedback that improves teaching practice without diminishing teacher confidence.
  • Strong skills in curriculum design, lesson planning, observation documentation, and both formative and summative assessment.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication for supporting faculty, leading group training, and collaborating with executive leadership.
  • A bachelor’s degree in early childhood education, child development, or a related field; an advanced degree or Montessori credential is an advantage.
  • Ability to juggle operational detail—such as schedules and templates—alongside deep pedagogical thinking.
