Role Overview
This role is central to the day-to-day execution and ongoing oversight of the scheme’s investment portfolio. You will lead research, performance tracking, and reporting activities that directly inform asset allocation decisions and manager selection. By ensuring alignment with regulatory mandates and internal policies, the position safeguards the fund’s long-term financial health and the interests of its members.
Key Responsibilities
- Contribute to the design and periodic review of the investment strategy, translating high-level objectives into actionable annual plans.
- Monitor portfolio returns against agreed benchmarks and recommend tactical adjustments to improve risk-adjusted performance.
- Conduct in-depth market analysis and financial modelling to evaluate potential investment opportunities, producing appraisal reports for decision-makers.
- Assess the performance of external fund managers, brokers, and custodians through regular due diligence and evaluation exercises.
- Prepare accurate investment performance dashboards, management reports, and presentations for the Investment Committee and Board of Trustees.
- Track compliance with investment mandates, regulatory limits, and internal risk frameworks, flagging any breaches or emerging risks.
- Liaise with service providers, investment consultants, and stakeholders to ensure smooth operational execution and information flow.
- Provide technical guidance to junior investment staff, fostering a culture of continuous learning and analytical rigour.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Economics, Actuarial Science, or a closely related quantitative field from a recognised university.
- At least one recognised professional qualification such as CIFA, CFA, CISI, CPA (K), or ACCA, with active membership in the relevant professional body.
- Minimum seven years of relevant experience in investment management, portfolio management, fund management, pension fund investments, or asset management.
- Deep understanding of capital markets, asset allocation techniques, and financial modelling.
- Proven ability to measure and attribute portfolio performance, manage investment risk, and ensure regulatory compliance within a pension fund context.
- Strong analytical, strategic-thinking, and decision-making skills, with a record of delivering clear, actionable recommendations.
- Excellent communication and presentation abilities, capable of engaging both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Demonstrated leadership and mentoring experience, with a commitment to integrity and results-oriented performance.
