This role owns the finance function of Tropikal Brands Africa Limited and carries the senior finance relationship with the Managing Director, the Board and every department head. Day to day it means running the planning and reporting cycle, interrogating manufacturing margins and inventory, watching cash and treasury exposure, and keeping both the company and its sister business, Tropikal Spaces Limited, compliant and audit-ready. It matters because disciplined costing, honest numbers and tight controls are what allow the group to fund growth, protect its assets and stay consistently profitable.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the annual budget, forecast and long-range planning cycle alongside the Managing Director and departmental leads, and translate the results into clear commentary on performance, risks and growth options for management and the Board.
- Own the reporting stack end to end: monthly management accounts, ledger reconciliations, statutory annual statements and the external audit, for Tropikal Brands Africa Limited and, in oversight capacity, Tropikal Spaces Limited.
- Drive commercial finance across the manufacturing operation — product costing, margin and profitability analysis, production efficiency measurement, inventory valuation and stock controls — and advise Sales, Marketing, Production and Procurement on pricing, discount structures, waste reduction and cost containment.
- Run treasury and working capital: cash flow forecasting, credit control, supplier payment terms, and management of foreign exchange and interest rate exposures to protect liquidity.
- Secure full tax and statutory compliance in Kenya, including timely returns, eTIMS, payroll remittances, and correct accounting and documentation of related-party transactions.
- Maintain and strengthen internal controls, covering fraud prevention, risk registers, audit remediation, insurance cover and business continuity arrangements.
- Act as the finance lead for Tropikal Spaces Limited, ensuring accurate accounts, cash flow visibility, reporting, tax compliance, intercompany reconciliations, sound controls and responsive finance support to that business.
- Champion finance systems and process improvement — automation, ERP data integrity, reconciliation discipline and faster management reporting — while leading and developing the finance team, evaluating investment and capital expenditure proposals, supporting strategic transactions and contributing to sustainability reporting as directed by the Managing Director.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, commerce or a closely related discipline; a relevant master's degree is an added advantage.
- CPA(K), ACCA or an equivalent recognised professional accountancy qualification, with current membership in good standing of the relevant professional body and compliance with Kenyan professional requirements.
- At least 10 years of progressive finance experience, of which a minimum of 5 years has been spent in senior finance leadership.
- Demonstrated manufacturing or FMCG background, with hands-on strength in product costing, inventory management and commercial finance.
- Proven capability in financial reporting, Kenyan tax compliance, treasury, budgeting, external audit management and internal controls; experience supporting more than one legal entity is an advantage.
- Strong command of Sage X3 ERP, advanced spreadsheets and financial modelling, together with a track record of improving finance processes and management reporting.
- Core competencies: strategic and commercial judgement, rigorous financial analysis, integrity and confidentiality, sound risk assessment, clear communication at Board level, the confidence to challenge constructively, team leadership, collaboration and personal accountability for delivery.
