Role Overview
This position is responsible for owning the end-to-end development, accreditation, and continuous improvement of Higher Diploma programmes within a specific clinical specialty. Day-to-day work involves leading curriculum design, coordinating clinical training placements, teaching and supervising students, and ensuring all activities meet regulatory and quality assurance standards. The role is critical to building a skilled healthcare workforce by bridging academic instruction with real-world clinical practice.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the creation, official accreditation, and rollout of Higher Diploma programmes in the assigned clinical field, including periodic curriculum review and updates.
- Teach, assess, and mentor Higher Diploma students, providing both classroom and clinical instruction.
- Establish and manage clinical training placements by building and maintaining partnerships with healthcare facilities and professional bodies.
- Ensure full compliance with regulatory requirements, accreditation standards, and internal quality assurance processes.
- Coordinate programme planning, budgeting, reporting, and efficient use of resources such as equipment, supplies, and clinical training spaces.
- Promote research, innovation, and evidence-based practices among students and faculty, encouraging a culture of continuous clinical improvement.
- Contribute to the training of basic clinical officer programmes when required, supporting broader institutional teaching needs.
- Support the use of e-learning systems and blended learning approaches to enhance curriculum delivery and student engagement.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Higher Diploma in a relevant clinical specialty from a recognised institution.
- Bachelor’s degree in a health-related field (e.g., Clinical Medicine, Nursing, Public Health).
- Valid professional registration and a current practising licence from the relevant regulatory body.
- Registration as a trainer with TVETA (Technical and Vocational Education and Training Authority).
- At least five (5) years of post-qualification clinical experience, with a minimum of two (2) years in the specific specialty area covered by the programme.
- Minimum three (3) years of experience in teaching, clinical instruction, or supervision of healthcare trainees.
- Demonstrated experience in curriculum development, programme coordination, accreditation processes, or other forms of academic leadership.
- Strong skills in competency-based training and assessment, stakeholder engagement, strategic planning, and project management.
- Excellent communication, mentorship, and interpersonal skills; proficiency in using e-learning platforms is required.
- Preferred (added advantage): A Master’s degree in Clinical Medicine, Medical Education, Public Health, Health Professions Education, or a related field; experience with coordinating e-learning and blended learning; familiarity with NCMTC teaching and learning methodologies.
