Job Description

Role Overview

This senior clinical position places you at the centre of specialised patient care within a public health institution, where your advanced medical knowledge will directly shape treatment outcomes and service delivery. You will spend your days managing complex cases, leading clinical teams, and ensuring that diagnostic and therapeutic procedures meet the highest professional standards. Your work matters because it not only improves individual patient outcomes but also strengthens the broader health system through mentorship, quality assurance, and strategic oversight.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide expert diagnosis and evidence-based treatment for patients referred to your specialty, including complex and high-risk cases.
  • Lead daily ward rounds and clinical reviews, guiding treatment plans and ensuring continuity of care across shifts.
  • Supervise and mentor medical officers, interns, and other health professionals, fostering their clinical reasoning and procedural competence.
  • Plan and conduct clinical audits, morbidity and mortality reviews, and quality improvement initiatives within your department.
  • Advise hospital administration on the procurement of medical equipment, pharmaceuticals, and consumables relevant to your specialty.
  • Develop or update clinical protocols, standard operating procedures, and referral guidelines to align with national and council regulations.
  • Represent the department in multidisciplinary team meetings, policy discussions, and health planning committees.
  • Maintain accurate, confidential patient records and ensure all documentation satisfies legal and professional requirements.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (M.B.Ch.B) degree from an institution recognised by the Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council.
  • Master’s degree in Medicine, Anaesthesia, Radiology, Health Informatics, or an equivalent qualification from an institution recognised by the Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council.
  • Current registration certificate from the Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council.
  • Valid practising licence from the Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council.
  • Certificate in the Strategic Leadership Development Programme course lasting not less than six (6) weeks from a recognised institution.

What We Offer / Why Join

This role is offered on permanent and pensionable terms, providing long-term career security within the public health sector. The appointed candidate will join the salary scale at Job Group "Q," starting at Ksh. 105,570 per month and progressing through clearly defined annual increments up to Ksh. 139,790 per month, as outlined in the appointment schedule.
