Role Overview
This is a senior clinical position for a palliative medicine specialist who will manage complex patient care while also contributing to broader hospital operations. Daily work involves direct patient consultations, symptom management, end-of-life care planning, and collaboration with multidisciplinary teams to ensure continuity of care. Beyond clinical duties, you will support disease surveillance efforts, oversee health education initiatives, and take part in research and training that strengthens the institution's medical services.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform comprehensive patient assessments, diagnose conditions, and implement individualized treatment and rehabilitation plans with a focus on palliative and supportive care.
- Provide specialized clinical consultations for patients with advanced or life-limiting illnesses, ensuring pain control and symptom relief are prioritized.
- Deliver surgical and non-surgical procedures within your scope of practice, and provide mentorship to junior medical staff during complex cases.
- Conduct forensic and medico-legal examinations and produce accurate documentation in compliance with legal and ethical standards.
- Lead disease surveillance activities, including outbreak detection, reporting, and implementing prevention measures across the facility and surrounding community.
- Coordinate health promotion campaigns and patient education sessions to improve awareness of palliative care, chronic disease management, and preventive health practices.
- Manage and evaluate health projects and programmes, tracking outcomes and adjusting approaches to meet patient population needs.
- Maintain accurate patient records and health information systems, and prepare analytical reports to support decision-making and ongoing research.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (M.B.Ch.B) degree from an institution recognized by the Medical Practitioners and Dentists Board.
- Master's degree in Palliative Medicine from a recognized institution.
- Current registration with the Medical Practitioners and Dentists Board, along with a valid practicing license.
- Completion of a Strategic Leadership Development Programme lasting at least six weeks from a recognized institution.
- Demonstrated computer application skills, including proficiency with medical records systems and data analysis tools.
- Proven clinical competence with several years of hands-on experience in patient care, including specialized palliative medicine practice.
- Managerial capability evidenced by previous leadership responsibilities, successful programme coordination, or supervision of health teams.
- Strong communication, analytical, and interpersonal skills to effectively engage patients, families, and interdisciplinary colleagues.
