Role Overview
This is a senior surgical post for a dual-qualified dental and medical specialist who will take ownership of complex procedures involving the mouth, jaws, face, and neck. You will manage everything from routine implant placement to major reconstructive work after trauma, while also handling outpatient anesthesia and sedation. Your work directly determines patients' ability to eat, speak, breathe, and recover from disfiguring or life-threatening conditions, making clinical precision and calm judgment essential from the first consultation through postoperative care.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan and place dental implants, including advanced cases requiring bone grafting, ridge augmentation, or sinus lift procedures to rebuild adequate jaw structure.
- Treat acute facial trauma such as displaced mandibular fractures, zygomatic complex injuries, and orbital floor blowout fractures, restoring both function and facial contour.
- Perform orthognathic surgery to reposition the maxilla and mandible, addressing malocclusion, developmental deformities, and obstructive sleep apnea.
- Carry out diagnostic and therapeutic procedures for oral pathology, including incisional and excisional biopsies, removal of cysts and benign tumors, and surgical management of deep neck space infections.
- Manage temporomandibular joint disorders through surgical and minimally invasive interventions, including arthrocentesis, arthroscopy, or open joint surgery where indicated.
- Deliver elective facial aesthetic procedures such as facelifts, rhinoplasty, Botox injections, and dermal fillers, ensuring results are safe, natural, and aligned with patient expectations.
- Order and interpret advanced imaging, including panoramic radiographs, CBCT, and CT scans, and correlate findings with clinical examination to establish accurate diagnoses.
- Administer conscious sedation, deep sedation, and general anesthesia in an outpatient surgical setting, requiring you to act simultaneously as the operating surgeon and the anesthetist.
Requirements & Qualifications
- A Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) degree from a university recognized by the Medical Practitioners and Dentists Board.
- A Master of Dental Surgery (MDS) degree in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery from a recognized institution, with structured training covering both surgical and anesthetic competencies.
- Full registration with the Medical Practitioners and Dentists Board, along with a valid, current practicing license.
- A Certificate in Strategic Leadership Development Programme of at least six weeks' duration from a recognized institution, reflecting the managerial scope expected of a specialist this level.
- A recognized certificate in computer application skills, demonstrating the ability to use digital records, imaging software, and clinical documentation systems.
- Demonstrated professional competence in oral and maxillofacial surgery, supported by a track record of independent decision-making, positive patient outcomes, and effective leadership in a clinical team.
- Managerial capability evidenced by prior experience overseeing surgical lists, mentoring junior staff, or coordinating multidisciplinary head and neck care.
