Role Overview
This position is responsible for shaping insurance products by driving pricing, building actuarial models, and analysing risk exposures that directly influence both short-term decisions and long-term strategy. Day-to-day work involves producing precise actuarial outputs, ensuring compliance with local regulations, and continuously refining processes to strengthen financial stability and support business expansion. The role is critical for aligning product offerings with market needs while maintaining sound risk management and profitability targets.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and price new life insurance and Takaful products, using actuarial models to test financial viability and market competitiveness.
- Perform regular valuations of policy liabilities, reserves, and solvency positions in line with internal policies and external reporting standards.
- Conduct risk analysis and scenario testing to inform underwriting limits, investment strategies, and capital adequacy.
- Prepare and review financial reports, including IFRS 17 disclosures, regulatory solvency returns, and management information on actuarial assumptions.
- Build, maintain, and improve actuarial models (e.g., using Prophet) to support pricing, valuation, and projections.
- Collaborate with product, finance, and compliance teams to ensure actuarial recommendations are actionable and aligned with business goals.
- Monitor experience data and recommend assumption updates for morbidity, mortality, lapses, and expenses.
- Support the implementation of new regulatory requirements and enhance actuarial process documentation for audit readiness.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Actuarial Science or a directly related quantitative field.
- Minimum of four professional actuarial exams passed with a recognised body such as IFoA or SOA.
- At least three to four years of hands-on actuarial experience, preferably within life insurance or Takaful (Shari’ah-compliant insurance) operations.
- Proven exposure to actuarial modelling and data analysis tools and techniques.
- Experience in product pricing, valuation, and financial reporting processes.
- Familiarity with IFRS 17, reserving methodologies, or solvency reporting frameworks.
- Experience with actuarial software such as Prophet is considered an added advantage.
