Role Overview
This position sits at the centre of a multi-entity finance function, taking ownership of the numbers that flow from customer contracts through to investor reporting. Day to day, the Senior Accountant keeps revenue recognition accurate, tracks project budgets against actual spend, produces reconciliations and close journals, and makes sure every entity stays audit-ready. The role matters because commercial teams, project leads, and investors all rely on the same set of financial figures being right, on time, and properly supported — and this is the person who makes that happen.
Key Responsibilities
- Own revenue accounting end to end: recognise income in the correct periods, maintain and reconcile revenue schedules, and review draft contracts so billing terms, milestones, and tax treatment are documented well enough to withstand external audit scrutiny.
- Monitor the receivables cycle — invoicing, collections, ageing, and outstanding balances — and work alongside commercial and project colleagues to untangle disputed bills or slow payments, including maintaining support for provisions and write-offs.
- Track revenue and project performance against budgets, milestones, and forecasts, flagging where actual results diverge from contractual expectations.
- Set up new projects in the finance/ERP platform with the right codes, budgets, cost centres, and financial parameters, then keep them running cleanly through to close-out and final reconciliation.
- Produce Budget vs Actual reports and variance analysis, working with project teams to explain material swings, spot emerging cost overruns, and support cost, revenue, and completion forecasting.
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual investor reporting packs, maintain investor reconciliations and schedules, gather input from internal teams, and respond to investor financial queries promptly.
- Deliver the monthly, quarterly, and year-end close: post month-end journals covering revenue, accruals, prepayments, provisions, and reclassifications, and prepare balance sheet, intercompany, receivables, revenue, project, and investor reconciliations, clearing aged or unexplained items.
- Administer finance master data and approval workflows in the accounting system, onboard new finance users, resolve system and workflow issues with Finance and IT, and drive automation and process improvements that cut manual effort.
- Support external, statutory, internal, tax, and investor audits across multiple jurisdictions by preparing schedules and documentation, coordinating query responses, tracking open requests, and closing control gaps.
- Help keep tax compliance on track across entities — VAT, withholding tax, and statutory filings — ensuring tax transactions are booked to the correct ledgers, checking contracts and payments for tax implications, and escalating cross-border or project-related tax risks.
- Act as a finance business partner to Commercial, Project, Operations, and Investment teams, translating financial performance into clear insight on variances, risks, and opportunities.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Commerce, or a closely related discipline.
- Professional accounting qualification (CPA, ACCA, ACA, CIMA, or equivalent).
- Six to eight years of progressive accounting and finance experience, ideally spanning more than one entity or jurisdiction.
- Hands-on strength in financial accounting, revenue recognition, reconciliations, and financial reporting.
- Demonstrated project accounting experience, including budget monitoring and Budget vs Actual reporting.
- Track record of preparing reporting for investors or other external stakeholders.
- Experience supporting audits — external, statutory, internal, or tax — across multiple entities.
- Advanced Excel skills plus proficiency with accounting/ERP systems; exposure to process improvement, automation, or system implementations is viewed favourably.
- Excellent written and verbal financial communication: able to interpret numbers, explain the story behind performance, and present trends, variances, and risks clearly to both finance and non-finance audiences.
- Sharp analytical and technical accounting ability, with meticulous attention to detail and accuracy.
- Commercial, business-partnering mindset and sound problem-solving and decision-making judgement.
- Proven ability to juggle competing priorities and deadlines, with a high degree of ownership, accountability, and integrity.
- Proactive in surfacing and resolving financial issues, and continuously looking for ways to improve how the finance function works.
