Job Description

Role Overview

This position is responsible for steering the organisation’s aviation security framework across daily operations, emergent threats, and long-term regulatory compliance. You will lead efforts to identify vulnerabilities, respond to incidents, ensure staff readiness through structured training, and keep the security programme aligned with both national law and international standards. The role matters because it directly safeguards passengers, crew, and aircraft, while preserving the operator’s integrity and licence to operate.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and continuously update the Aircraft Operator Security Program (AOSP) to reflect current risks, regulatory changes, and operational realities.
  • Direct intelligence-gathering activities and lead investigations into security breaches, suspicious occurrences, and criminal or procedural violations.
  • Oversee pre-employment vetting, periodic background checks, and personnel security files, ensuring all actions conform to data protection and labour legislation.
  • Design and run aviation security training courses covering aircraft search techniques, emergency response protocols, and protection of passengers and assets, with complete training documentation.
  • Plan and execute internal security audits, coordinate external inspections, and maintain a clear trail of reports, minutes, investigation outcomes, and corrective actions.
  • Serve as the primary security contact for government agencies, regulators, and law enforcement, and provide timely guidance to senior and line management on emerging threats and required countermeasures.
  • Activate and manage enhanced security measures during periods of elevated or specific threat, including tightened access control, additional screening, and increased patrol activity.
  • Prepare and administer the security budget, ensuring resources are allocated efficiently across personnel, technology, and training initiatives.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Aviation Security, Security Management, Criminology, or a closely related discipline.
  • At least eight years of progressive experience in aviation security management or a comparable security leadership role, with demonstrated responsibility for teams and strategic decisions.
  • Formal professional training in aviation security, risk assessment, incident investigation, and emergency response planning.
  • Certification as an AVSEC Instructor is considered a distinct advantage.
  • Valid Certificate of Good Conduct or equivalent police clearance certificate.
  • Thorough working knowledge of national and international aviation security regulations, including ICAO standards and applicable national programmes.
  • Advanced English communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to produce clear policies, briefings, and investigation reports.
  • Strong leadership, analytical reasoning, and decision-making capabilities, paired with effective stakeholder engagement and a high standard of professional integrity.
