Job Description

Role Overview

This is a school-based nursing position at an international school in Kenya, where you will be responsible for the daily health and wellbeing of students and staff. Your mornings and afternoons will be spent in the school clinic responding to injuries and sudden illness, caring for children with chronic conditions, and supporting the school’s wider health and safety routines.

Beyond treating sick children, you will act as a bridge between families, teachers, and the school’s leadership — helping to keep every learner healthy, present, and ready to learn. The role demands both sound clinical judgement and a calm, reassuring approach to working with young people across different age groups.

Key Responsibilities

  • Operate the school day clinic and deliver first aid, triage, and emergency care for students and staff who become unwell or injured during school hours.
  • Administer prescribed medication according to individual health plans and ensure correct documentation of dosage, time, and response.
  • Maintain accurate, confidential medical records for every student, including allergies, immunisation history, ongoing treatments, and parental consent forms.
  • Put in place and monitor individual care plans for learners with chronic conditions such as asthma, epilepsy, diabetes, or severe allergies.
  • Carry out regular health and wellness checks — for example vision, hearing, height, and weight — and escalate any concerning findings to parents and appropriate healthcare providers.
  • Liaise directly with parents, teachers, and pastoral staff whenever a student’s health changes or requires follow-up.
  • Provide health education and guidance to students of different ages, as well as basic first-aid training to selected staff members.
  • Make sure clinic supplies are stocked, equipment is sterilised and functional, and all care provided is aligned with the Nursing Council of Kenya requirements.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing or a Diploma in nursing with Kenya Registered Community Health Nurse (KRCHN) qualification.
  • Valid practising licence from the Nursing Council of Kenya, with active registration maintained throughout employment.
  • At least 2 to 3 years of clinical nursing experience, ideally gained in a school, college, or other educational setting.
  • Previous work in an international school environment is a strong advantage, as you will be caring for a diverse student community.
  • Solid clinical skills with a strong understanding of paediatric health, child development, and common childhood conditions.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills so that you can reassure anxious pupils, speak clearly with parents, and coordinate well with teaching staff.

Applications must be received by 11th September 2026. Please send the following to [email protected] with the job title as the email subject: a cover letter, your Curriculum Vitae including three professional referees, and the completed Employment Application Form. We look forward to hearing from candidates who are passionate about caring for children within a vibrant educational community.
