Role Overview
This position sits at the centre of our kitchen's daily rhythm: preparing and plating meals to a consistently high standard while keeping ingredients, equipment and time under tight control. You will work across the full range of cooking techniques — from the grill to the oven to the stockpot — and take real ownership of how food leaves the pass. Just as importantly, you will help shape the team around you, coaching less experienced cooks and setting the tone for how a busy, professional kitchen operates.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and cook a wide variety of dishes using grilling, baking, boiling, frying, roasting and other techniques as required by the menu.
- Follow established recipes, portion sizes and presentation specifications so that every plate meets the standard expected by our guests and management.
- Manage kitchen resources carefully — food stock, ingredients, fuel, equipment and time — minimising spoilage, over-portioning and unnecessary waste.
- Check deliveries and stored ingredients for quality, freshness and correct storage conditions before they enter production.
- Maintain strict hygiene, cleanliness and food safety practices across workstations, utensils and storage areas, in line with institutional standards.
- Coordinate preparation and service timing with the rest of the kitchen so that meals are delivered accurately and on schedule, including during peak periods.
- Support and guide junior kitchen staff and trainees, sharing technique and helping build a capable, cohesive team.
- Monitor equipment, report faults promptly, and perform duties with minimal supervision while keeping the head of kitchen informed of significant issues.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Minimum of 3 years' hands-on cooking experience in a busy institution such as a hotel, restaurant, hospital, school or comparable high-volume kitchen.
- Formal training in Food Production from a reputable institution.
- Solid working knowledge of multiple cooking methods, including grilling, baking and boiling.
- Age 28 years and above.
- Proven ability to execute duties accurately and on time with minimal supervision.
- Flexible approach to shifts and duties, with a positive attitude and effective communication skills.
- A committed Christian who shares the values of our workplace.
- Valid certificate of good conduct.
Why Join
We are looking for someone who takes genuine pleasure in food well made — a person who cares about the details of presentation and resource management as much as we do, and who wants to help build a kitchen team worth being proud of. If that describes you, this role offers the chance to do that work every day in a setting that takes both craft and character seriously.
