Job Description

Role Overview

This role puts you in charge of a field-based lending sales team, where your day is split between coaching agents in the market and reviewing how the loans they write are actually performing. You own the balance between growth and credit quality — pushing the team toward ambitious disbursement targets while making sure the portfolio stays healthy enough to sustain that growth. Success here directly shapes the organisation's revenue and its risk exposure, which is why the position carries both commercial and oversight responsibility.

Key Responsibilities

  • Set clear sales targets for the team and drive daily, weekly and monthly performance against them through regular field accompaniment and pipeline reviews.
  • Grow a loan book that is both sizeable and sound, applying credit standards consistently so that volume is never purchased at the cost of repayment behaviour.
  • Recruit new sales agents, run onboarding and product training, and build individual development plans that move strong performers toward larger territories or supervisory duties.
  • Track portfolio indicators such as repayment rates, arrears ageing and disbursement trends, and step in early where accounts begin to slip.
  • Oversee collection activity for the assigned book, supporting agents on difficult cases and escalating accounts that require formal recovery action.
  • Scope out untapped markets, customer segments and referral channels, and convert those findings into a working lead pipeline for the team.
  • Verify that loan documentation, client verification and approval steps meet internal policy and regulatory expectations before files move forward.
  • Report team performance, portfolio health and market intelligence to senior management, with clear recommendations on where to push and where to pull back.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a business-related discipline such as marketing, finance, accounting, economics or management.
  • At least two years in a supervisory or team-lead position within a sales environment, ideally in lending, microfinance, banking, insurance or a comparable field-sales setting.
  • Proven record of hitting and surpassing sales targets, personally and through a team.
  • Strong leadership presence — able to motivate agents working largely outside an office and hold them accountable without close daily supervision.
  • Confident communicator and negotiator, comfortable engaging clients, community contacts and internal credit teams.
  • Solid customer relationship instincts, including the judgement to say no to a loan that does not meet standards.
  • Working familiarity with credit appraisal basics, collection practices and portfolio reporting; comfort with spreadsheets or loan management systems.
  • Willingness to spend substantial time in the field within the assigned territory.
