Role Overview
This is a field-based selling role for someone who is comfortable spending most of the week on the road, in and around active construction sites, dealership counters and workshops. You will carry the company's paints, coatings and building-material range into the market, working directly with the people who specify, apply and resell it. Success in this position comes down to a steady pipeline of demand: new projects identified early, dormant accounts brought back to life, and existing dealers moving more stock because the influencers around them trust the brand.
Key Responsibilities
- Cover an assigned territory on a planned call cycle, meeting dealers, distributors, painters, applicators, contractors and end customers to present and sell the product range.
- Hunt for demand ahead of the competition by tracking upcoming sites, institutional projects, renovations and new construction activity, and turning those leads into specifications and orders.
- Cultivate long-term relationships with the influencers who drive product choice — painters, contractors, applicators and developers — so that the brand is the default recommendation on their jobs.
- Back up channel partners by supporting their secondary sales, helping them move stock, resolve counter-level issues and win repeat business from their own customer base.
- Run product presentations, demonstrations and awareness sessions on site or at dealer premises, and match the right product to each customer's surface, budget and performance requirement.
- Own the assigned sales target, keeping accurate records of visits, leads, live projects and pipeline activity, and submitting weekly and monthly reports on demand generation and market movement.
- Keep an eye on competitor pricing, new product launches and promotional activity in the territory, and feed that intelligence back to the Sales Manager with recommendations.
- Manage the existing account base actively, including reconnecting with dormant customers and converting them into regular buyers, and handle enquiries or complaints quickly and professionally.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Diploma or bachelor's degree in Business, Marketing, Engineering or a related discipline.
- Two to three years of sales experience in paints, coatings, building materials or an adjacent industry, ideally gained in a field or territory-based role.
- Confident selling and negotiation ability, with the presence to influence painters, contractors, developers and channel partners face to face.
- Clear verbal communication and strong presentation skills for product demonstrations and dealer meetings.
- A customer-focused, target-driven mindset, with the persistence to follow up on leads until they convert.
- Good organisation and record-keeping habits, plus the problem-solving instinct to resolve customer issues on the spot.
- Able to work independently on the road, manage your own schedule and stay self-motivated without close supervision.
- Willingness to travel daily within the territory and work in the field in varied site conditions.
- A valid driving licence is an added advantage.
