Role Overview
This is a hands-on commercial leadership position with a Nairobi-based microfinance institution that lends to small businesses, traders, and local entrepreneurs. You will carry the growth agenda for the business — splitting your time between the field, where you coach sales officers and build community relationships, and the desk, where you plan campaigns, track portfolio performance, and report to senior management. The role matters because the institution's ability to reach underserved borrowers at scale depends directly on how well its sales force performs and how strongly its brand is trusted in the communities it serves.
Key Responsibilities
- Build and execute commercial growth plans that deliver against loan portfolio and revenue targets for the institution.
- Recruit, train, coach, and supervise sales officers, setting clear acquisition goals and holding the team to monthly performance benchmarks.
- Open up new market reach through structured field outreach, referrals, community partnerships, and direct engagement with small business owners.
- Plan and run marketing campaigns and promotional activations across field events, local channels, digital platforms, and community touchpoints to strengthen brand recognition and client trust.
- Monitor the sales pipeline and agent activity daily, stepping in quickly when conversion or disbursement numbers fall behind target.
- Review campaign results, customer feedback, and competitor activity, then adjust promotional tactics and product positioning accordingly.
- Strengthen the customer experience by tightening service protocols, resolving complaints and inquiries promptly, and protecting retention rates.
- Feed field intelligence back to product and business development colleagues so credit products evolve to match real borrower needs.
- Manage the sales and marketing budget, and present clear performance updates on client acquisition and team output to senior leadership.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Business Administration, or a closely related field.
- Three to five years of proven experience leading both sales and marketing functions inside a microfinance institution or credit facility.
- A valid Certificate of Good Conduct is mandatory.
- Working knowledge of microfinance product structures, credit risk principles, and the regulatory framework governing lending in Kenya.
- Comfort with MS Office tools and customer relationship management (CRM) platforms for tracking pipelines and reporting.
- Demonstrated ability to build, motivate, and retain a high-performing field sales team.
- A results-driven approach backed by a track record of meeting aggressive loan disbursement and revenue goals.
- Strong negotiation, public presentation, and relationship-building skills, with the confidence to engage everyone from grassroots borrowers to corporate stakeholders.
What We Offer / Why Join
- A management-level role with real ownership of commercial strategy, budget, and team direction.
- Monthly gross salary of Ksh 75,000 – Ksh 100,000, plus additional benefits.
- Full-time, on-site work based in Nairobi, combining office-based planning with community field outreach.
