Role Overview
This role sits at the front line of the bank's growth strategy, combining proactive client acquisition with consultative relationship management. Day to day, the business development officer researches opportunities, reaches out to prospective and existing customers, presents tailored financial solutions, and shepherds deals through internal approvals. The position directly impacts the bank's market share and revenue, making consistent target achievement and a customer-first mindset essential.
Key Responsibilities
- Proactively source and nurture a pipeline of new business clients through networking, referrals, and targeted outreach, while deepening relationships with existing account holders.
- Present and cross-sell the bank’s full suite of products—including credit facilities, deposit accounts, and investment options—tailored to client needs.
- Conduct market intelligence on competitor offerings, customer preferences, and emerging segments to inform business development strategy.
- Prepare customized proposals and pitch decks, articulating value propositions and commercial terms to diverse client audiences.
- Assess client financial positions and risk profiles, recommending appropriate banking solutions while ensuring alignment with internal credit and compliance guidelines.
- Manage end-to-end client onboarding and ongoing account servicing, coordinating with credit, operations, and risk teams to resolve issues promptly.
- Track sales metrics, pipeline health, and market feedback; report on performance against quarterly and annual growth objectives.
- Stay current on regulatory changes and industry best practices to advise clients accurately and maintain the bank's reputation.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, Economics, Marketing, or a related discipline; relevant postgraduate or professional certification is advantageous.
- 2–4 years of direct experience in business development, relationship management, or sales within banking or financial services.
- Demonstrated ability to consistently achieve or exceed revenue, deposit, and loan growth targets.
- Solid grasp of banking regulations, compliance requirements, anti-money laundering practices, and risk management principles.
- Working knowledge of retail, SME, or corporate banking products, credit processes, and financial statement analysis.
- Strong negotiation, presentation, and closing skills, with experience delivering proposals to decision-makers.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, CRM platforms, and sales reporting tools.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, capable of collaborating across internal teams and engaging clients at all levels.
