Role Overview
This is a field-based sales role for someone who is equally comfortable negotiating with a distributor, walking a live construction site, and coaching a junior colleague on closing technique. The person in this seat owns a defined territory and is accountable for growing revenue there by expanding the customer base, deepening existing accounts, and keeping the company's products front of mind with everyone who specifies or buys them. Because so much of the job happens in the market rather than the office, success depends on consistent presence, sharp commercial instincts, and the ability to turn what you learn in the field into action.
Key Responsibilities
- Translate territory revenue goals into a practical sales plan, then execute it to hit monthly, quarterly, and annual targets.
- Spend the majority of working hours in the field — visiting hardware retailers, distributors, contractors, developers, and active construction sites — to open new accounts and grow existing ones.
- Qualify and convert prospects into repeat buyers, managing the full cycle from first contact through order placement and reorder.
- Build and sustain working relationships with the specifiers and decision-makers who influence purchasing, including contractors, developers, architects, engineers, consultants, and distributors.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for key accounts: answer product and technical questions, resolve complaints, arrange after-sales support, and supply accurate product information.
- Process customer orders and coordinate with operations, production, procurement, and finance colleagues to keep fulfilment and delivery on schedule.
- Track receivables on assigned accounts and follow up on overdue payments in line with the company's credit-control practices.
- Watch competitor pricing, market trends, and shifting customer preferences, and feed regular market intelligence back to management.
- Support local marketing activity such as product promotions, activations, and site branding to raise product and brand visibility in the territory.
- Supervise, coach, and coordinate other sales team members in the territory, setting the standard through your own customer acquisition and target performance.
- Submit daily, weekly, and monthly reports covering sales results, market developments, customer feedback, and team performance.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or diploma in Marketing, Business Administration, Communications, or a related discipline.
- 3–5 years of sales executive experience in manufacturing, building and construction, marketing, or a comparable commercial environment.
- Demonstrated skill in negotiation and business development, with a track record of winning and retaining accounts.
- Ability to plan strategically and analyse market conditions to prioritise effort and territory coverage.
- Strong communication and presentation skills, both with trade customers and internal stakeholders.
- Proven client relationship management, including handling complaints and technical queries confidently.
- Leadership capability sufficient to guide, motivate, and develop sales team members.
- A results-driven, target-oriented mindset suited to a field sales environment with limited direct supervision.
