Role Overview
This position sits at the intersection of engineering knowledge and commercial selling, working with industrial buyers who need equipment that performs reliably in demanding production environments. Day to day, the Sales Engineer moves between client plants along the Mombasa Road corridor and the Nairobi office — surveying sites, translating production problems into equipment specifications, and guiding buyers through evaluation, negotiation, and commissioning. The role matters because it converts technical credibility into long-term accounts across dairy, beverage, food processing, and agricultural operations, where the wrong specification is far more expensive than the right conversation.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out site surveys at client facilities to document technical specifications, space and utility constraints, throughput targets, and existing production bottlenecks.
- Prepare technical proposals, equipment layouts, priced quotations, and commercial terms that align with what the customer's process actually requires.
- Present equipment demonstrations and technical pitches to plant engineers, technical directors, and executive decision-makers, adjusting depth of detail to the audience.
- Own the full sales cycle — prospecting, lead qualification, product selection, negotiation, contract execution, and closing.
- Develop new corporate accounts through field visits, market research, targeted outreach, and industry networking across dairy processing, beverage, food manufacturing, and agricultural processing.
- Track competitor pricing, product launches, and machinery trends in the region, and feed that intelligence back into pricing and positioning decisions.
- Coordinate with engineering and installation teams on equipment dispatch, delivery, assembly, testing, and commissioning, then manage the formal customer handover.
- Maintain ongoing contact with existing clients to resolve post-installation issues, monitor equipment performance, and identify upgrade, maintenance, and expansion opportunities.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Chemical, Mechatronics, or Industrial), Business Administration, Sales, Marketing, or a closely related discipline.
- At least five years of hands-on experience in technical equipment sales, industrial machinery B2B sales, or engineering solution selling.
- Prior experience selling stainless-steel storage tanks, dairy processing plants, milk chilling units, or comparable processing machinery is a strong advantage.
- Demonstrated ability to manage long-cycle B2B deals, including contract negotiation, commercial pricing structures, and pipeline discipline.
- Technical fluency sufficient to read engineering drawings and process flow diagrams and to convert specifications into clear customer benefits.
- Confident presentation and interpersonal skills, with a track record of building relationships with plant managers, procurement officers, technical directors, and engineering leads.
What We Offer / Why Join
- A monthly salary of KSh 100,000 for this full-time role.
- Base at Mombasa Road, Nairobi, combining office-based coordination with regular visits to customer sites.
- Exposure to a broad industrial customer base spanning dairy, beverage, food manufacturing, and agricultural processing.
- A position that carries genuine technical weight — you influence specifications and see projects through to commissioning and handover, rather than handing them off after the sale.
