Role Overview
This position owns the performance of a Shari'ah-compliant banking book, serving both corporate clients and retail customers while keeping the portfolio profitable, well documented, and within acceptable risk limits. Day to day, the holder meets clients to structure and close Islamic financing and deposit solutions, coordinates with relationship management teams and the branch network to open new opportunities, and reviews the portfolio for early warning signs of stress or leakage. The role matters because it directly determines whether the bank's Shari'ah-compliant proposition grows sustainably, retains its existing customer base, and maintains the service and compliance standards customers and regulators expect.
Key Responsibilities
- Originate new Shari'ah-compliant business and deepen existing corporate and retail relationships through regular client contact, needs analysis, and structured follow-up.
- Sell the full range of Islamic banking products and cross-sell complementary offerings from the wider product basket to meet assigned volume and value targets.
- Work closely with relationship management teams and branch staff to identify, qualify, and convert business opportunities across the network.
- Protect the book against fraud, revenue leakage, and avoidable losses by applying credit and operational risk controls consistently.
- Keep Portfolio at Risk within agreed thresholds through ongoing monitoring, timely classification, and proactive remediation of stressed accounts.
- Maintain complete, accurate, and audit-ready documentation and administration for every Shari'ah-compliant facility and account in the portfolio.
- Train, coach, and support branch personnel so they can confidently identify and refer Islamic banking prospects.
- Track and resolve customer complaints, review service delivery standards, and adjust coverage or staffing to sustain consistently high service quality.
- Grow and retain the existing customer base while reporting performance against both liability and asset targets.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree from a recognised institution.
- Islamic banking certification is a distinct advantage.
- At least three years of general work experience, including roughly two years in banking operations.
- Around two years of hands-on Shari'ah banking experience, with a working knowledge of Shari'ah-compliant financing and deposit structures.
- Approximately two years of credit experience, including assessment, monitoring, and portfolio quality management.
- Two years in sales and relationship management, ideally with accountability for targets.
- Demonstrated ability to manage Portfolio at Risk and apply risk mitigation practices that prevent losses.
- Strong documentation discipline and attention to regulatory and Shari'ah compliance requirements.
- Confident communicator able to influence stakeholders across branches and relationship teams, and to hold conversations with corporate and retail clients at senior levels.
- Target-driven, analytical, and organised, with the resilience to manage multiple portfolios and deadlines simultaneously.
