Job Description

Job Purpose:

The Senior Marketing Officer will therefore be expected to establish and lead the SACCO’s marketing function and contribute directly to the achievement of its growth objectives. The position will combine strategic marketing, business development, brand and communications responsibilities with hands-on execution.

Key Responsibilities

Marketing Strategy and Business Growth

  • Developing and implementing an annual marketing and business development plan aligned to the SACCO’s Strategic Plan.
  • Translating the SACCO’s strategic growth objectives into measurable marketing initiatives.
  • Developing strategies to attract new members and deepen relationships with existing members.
  • Supporting growth in deposits/savings, lending, investments and other approved SACCO products and services.
  • Identifying new market segments, member groups, institutions, employers and strategic partnerships.
  • Undertaking market intelligence, competitor analysis and monitoring emerging trends in the SACCO and financial services sectors.
  • Advising management on opportunities for product positioning, differentiation and market expansion.
  • Developing measurable marketing targets and monitoring performance against agreed KPIs.

Brand Management and Corporate Visibility

  • Developing and maintaining a strong and consistent SACCO brand.
  • Ensuring consistency in the use of the SACCO’s corporate identity, messaging and communication materials.
  • Increasing the SACCO’s visibility and reputation within Nairobi and other target markets.
  • Developing campaigns that communicate the SACCO’s value proposition clearly and professionally.

Digital Marketing and Social Media

  • Developing and managing the SACCO’s social media and digital marketing strategy.
  • Managing official social media channels and ensuring regular, relevant and professional content.
  • Developing digital campaigns for member acquisition, engagement and retention.
  • Monitoring social media performance, engagement and reach.
  • Responding appropriately to public engagement while escalating complaints or sensitive matters through the appropriate channels.
  • Keeping abreast of emerging digital marketing platforms, tools and technologies.

Promotional Materials and Content Production

  • Coordinating and, where appropriate, personally undertaking the design and production of posters, brochures, flyers and other promotional materials.
  • Producing digital advertisements, social media graphics, corporate presentations and marketing content.
  • Developing campaign materials for SACCO products and services.
  • Preparing member communication and promotional content.
  • Coordinating photography, video and other visual content, including use of external service providers where specialist expertise is required.

The Officer should therefore possess practical competence in relevant graphic design, content creation and digital marketing tools.

Events and Member Engagement

  • Supporting the planning and execution of AGM, member education, marketing, recruitment and promotional events.
  • Developing campaigns and activities to improve member engagement.
  • Supporting member acquisition initiatives in workplaces, institutions, professional groups and other target markets.
  • Promoting financial literacy and awareness of the SACCO’s products and services.

Marketing Analytics and Reporting

  • Establishing appropriate marketing metrics and dashboards.
  • Tracking customer/member acquisition, campaign performance, engagement and conversion.
  • Preparing periodic marketing performance reports for the CEO and Board.
  • Using data and market feedback to improve marketing effectiveness and return on investment.
  • Maintaining an appropriate marketing database and records.

Digital Reputation, Communications and Compliance

  • Monitoring the SACCO’s online reputation.
  • Supporting timely and appropriate communication with members and prospective members.
  • Coordinating with management on public-facing communications.
  • Ensuring that marketing communications comply with applicable laws, regulations and SACCO policies, including requirements relating to consumer protection and data protection.

Other Responsibilities

  • Supporting management in business development initiatives.
  • Participating in strategic planning and implementation activities.
  • Developing and maintaining appropriate marketing policies, procedures and operating plans.
  • Advising the CEO on emerging marketing opportunities and risks.
  • Undertaking such other duties as may reasonably be assigned from time to time by the CEO.

Qualifications & Experience

The preferred candidate should have:

  • A relevant degree in Marketing, Business Administration, Communications, Public Relations or a related field.
  • A professional qualifications in marketing or a related discipline will be an added advantage.
  • At least five years of experience in marketing, preferably within a SACCO, Co-operative, bank, microfinance institution, fintech or other financial services environment.
  • Demonstrable experience in digital marketing and social media management.

  • Ability to work with limited supervision while maintaining appropriate accountability.
  • High integrity, professionalism and confidentiality.
  • A demonstrable record of achieving measurable marketing or business growth results.
