Role Overview
You will be the driving force behind new feature development on our core SaaS platform, taking ideas from early whiteboard sketches through to production deployment. Every sprint, you’ll collaborate with product managers to define technical approaches, then work hands‑on with code, tests, and peer reviews to ensure each release is stable, scalable, and aligns with our user‑first philosophy. This role is critical because the features you ship directly influence how thousands of customers interact with the product daily, and your ability to ship high‑quality work quickly will shape our team’s velocity and reputation.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, code, and maintain backend services and APIs that power real‑time user features and data workflows.
- Conduct thorough code reviews with an emphasis on readability, security, and performance optimisations.
- Collaborate with frontend engineers to define clear contract interfaces and ensure smooth integration between layers.
- Write automated unit, integration, and end‑to‑end tests to catch regressions before they reach production.
- Triage and resolve production incidents alongside the on‑call team, documenting root causes and prevention steps.
- Participate in sprint planning and daily stand‑ups to commit to deliverables and flag blockers early.
- Contribute to architectural decisions on database design, caching strategies, and deployment pipelines.
- Mentor junior engineers through paired programming sessions and informal knowledge‑sharing brown bags.
Requirements & Qualifications
- 4+ years of professional experience building web applications in a modern backend language (e.g., Python, Go, or TypeScript).
- Strong understanding of RESTful API design patterns and experience with relational databases (PostgreSQL or MySQL).
- Familiarity with containerisation (Docker) and CI/CD tooling (GitHub Actions or Jenkins).
- Proven ability to troubleshoot complex problems under time pressure, using logs, metrics, and distributed tracing.
- Comfortable working in an agile environment where requirements evolve based on user feedback and business priorities.
- Excellent written communication skills for documenting technical decisions and changes in a shared wiki.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
