Role Overview
As the Regional Relationship Manager for Biashara Banking, you own the day-to-day execution of the micro and small business segment across an assigned region, translating head-office strategy into branch-level results. You sit between the Regional RM Business and the branch teams, keeping loan quality tight, arrears under control, and deposit and asset growth on track while developing the officers who deliver it. This is an Assistant Manager level position, suited to someone who is equally comfortable reviewing a credit decision, coaching a branch credit committee, and closing a partnership deal in the field.
Key Responsibilities
- Review loans originated across regional branches on a daily basis — sampling disbursed facilities, checking the decisions behind them, and flagging any signs of malpractice or policy drift before they become losses.
- Drive arrears management by engaging branch staff and relationship officers daily on outstanding positions, and maintain direct contact with borrowers in the region to protect relationships and recover value.
- Deliver refresher training to branch staff and train Branch Credit Committees so that all lending activity stays aligned with the institution's policies and procedures.
- Mentor, hand-hold and coach officers across the region on the lending process, building capability rather than simply correcting errors.
- Grow the regional book by organising and running marketing storms, following up on every lead they generate until it closes, and enforcing agreed service-level turnarounds.
- Recruit and manage micro business aggregators and other partners in the region, and support branches in onboarding and end-to-end ownership of the ecosystems they join.
- Contribute to sector product design, pricing reviews and strategy formulation based on real market feedback, then drive full implementation of that strategy at branch level.
- Run weekly performance reviews with Biashara Banking officers, identify skills gaps and high-potential talent, and advise the Regional RM Business on how staff should be deployed across branches.
Requirements & Qualifications
- A business-related university degree.
- At least six years' experience in the role of Relationship Supervisor – Biashara Banking, giving you proven familiarity with microfinance lending cycles, credit assessment and portfolio management.
- Strong coaching and knowledge-transfer skills, with the credibility to train and mentor colleagues at branch level.
- Excellent communication, presentation and negotiation abilities, and the interpersonal confidence to resolve conflicts constructively.
- A solid grasp of microfinance industry practice and regulatory expectations around lending and compliance.
- Excellent business relationship management and deal-closing skills, with a track record of building partnerships that produce results.
- Self-driven and detail-oriented, able to meet strict deadlines under pressure with minimal supervision.
- Leadership, planning and organisational capability, combined with the flexibility to shift focus as priorities change.
- A mature, team-oriented personality, self-motivated and resourceful, who leads by example and serves as an ambassador for the bank in the regional market.
