Role Overview
As a Refrigeration Technician, you will install, commission, maintain and repair commercial and industrial cooling systems at client sites in Nairobi and surrounding service areas. Your work will help keep refrigeration equipment operating safely and reliably by identifying faults early, restoring systems quickly and ensuring they reach the required temperatures.
Key Responsibilities
- Install and commission walk-in coolers, blast freezers, display cases and industrial chillers, including electrical connections and refrigerant piping.
- Set system controls and operating parameters, then confirm equipment performance and temperature ranges before handover.
- Carry out scheduled servicing such as cleaning condenser coils, lubricating fan motors and replacing filters.
- Check system pressures, temperatures and components to identify refrigerant leaks, wear or developing performance issues.
- Diagnose breakdowns using tools such as manifold gauges, leak detectors, multimeters and thermal cameras.
- Repair or replace compressors, evaporators, condensers, valves, relays, thermostats and electronic control boards.
- Braze, solder and seal refrigerant lines; evacuate systems, test for leaks and recharge refrigerant as required.
- Recover refrigerants safely, follow PPE and site-safety practices, complete service reports and monitor spare-parts supplies.
Requirements & Qualifications
- At least three years of experience working as a Refrigeration Technician.
- A diploma in Refrigeration and Air Conditioning or an equivalent mechanical engineering qualification.
- Practical knowledge of refrigeration cycles, electrical schematics, refrigerant recovery and copper-pipe brazing.
- Ability to trace electrical, mechanical and refrigerant-system faults and carry out appropriate repairs.
- Clear communication skills for explaining equipment faults, repair work and system operation to clients.
- A dependable, safety-focused approach and the ability to work independently or alongside a service team.
- Willingness to work on site and travel to commercial client locations from the Nairobi CBD base.
What We Offer / Why Join
This is a full-time, on-site and field-based role in Nairobi CBD, with a net monthly salary of KSh 40,000–KSh 50,000.
