Job Description

Role Overview

You will be the primary operator of X-ray and diagnostic imaging equipment, producing clear, accurate images that clinicians depend on for timely diagnosis and treatment planning. Beyond technical proficiency, your role centers on patient experience: explaining procedures, easing anxiety, and maintaining dignity and comfort for every individual, from urgent walk-ins to routine referrals. Your attention to detail and commitment to safety directly supports the hospital’s diagnostic accuracy and care quality.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform diagnostic X-ray examinations across a range of settings, including scheduled outpatient cases and urgent or trauma presentations in the emergency department.
  • Position patients correctly for each requested view, adapting technique for pediatric, elderly, or immobile patients while ensuring their comfort and cooperation.
  • Apply ALARA (As Low As Reasonably Achievable) principles to minimize radiation exposure without compromising diagnostic image quality.
  • Conduct routine quality assurance checks on imaging equipment, identifying calibration drift, artifacts, or malfunctions and escalating issues to the maintenance team without delay.
  • Review each image for diagnostic adequacy before the patient leaves the department, repeating or adjusting views when necessary to avoid recall visits.
  • Collaborate with radiologists, referring physicians, and nursing staff to clarify request details, prioritize urgent cases, and relay relevant clinical observations.
  • Maintain accurate patient records in the imaging information system and ensure all examinations are documented in compliance with legal and professional standards.
  • Assist with patient flow and workflow management during high-volume periods, contributing to a calm and organised department environment.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Diploma or Bachelor of Science in Radiography, Medical Imaging Sciences, or an equivalent recognised qualification.
  • Current, unrestricted registration or licensure with the relevant professional council or regulatory body for radiography practice in your jurisdiction.
  • A valid practicing license that is active and up to date, with no conditions or restrictions affecting clinical duties.
  • Demonstrated hands-on experience operating digital X-ray systems in a clinical setting; familiarity with computed radiography or portable units is expected, and CT or MRI exposure is a strong advantage.
  • Working knowledge of radiation protection protocols, image quality standards, and infection control practices within a diagnostic imaging environment.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, showing empathy with patients who may be anxious, in pain, or facing serious diagnoses, and the composure to work effectively under pressure.
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a multidisciplinary team, with dependable judgment and a methodical approach to patient positioning and imaging technique.
