Project Manager - Fixed Term Contract

Role Overview

This position leads the end-to-end delivery of construction and infrastructure projects for a philanthropic foundation, acting as the in-house technical authority across planning, procurement, implementation, and handover. You will work daily with project management consultants, contractors, internal teams, and community stakeholders to ensure every investment is executed safely, transparently, and to a high standard of quality. Your oversight directly determines whether funded initiatives — from large regional builds to community-level upgrades — are completed on time, within budget, and with lasting impact.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop detailed scopes of work and cost estimates for proposed projects, presenting them to the Board for funding decisions and ensuring alignment with strategic priorities.
• Oversee and assess the performance of external project management consultants, reviewing their design reports, Bills of Quantities, tender evaluations, and construction methodologies for accuracy, fairness, and compliance.
• Lead procurement processes for consultancy services in partnership with the supply chain team, ensuring transparent selection and equitable allocation of assignments across the consultant pool.
• Monitor all active construction projects against their approved plans, budgets, and schedules, conducting site visits and inspections to verify progress, quality, and adherence to contractual obligations.
• Manage the full grant and project administration lifecycle, including automated grant tracking systems, project databases, valuation reviews, contract documentation, bonds, and insurance requirements.
• Coordinate engagement with all stakeholders — benefitting communities, internal teams, consultants, and external visitors — through site handover meetings, review sessions, and monitoring and evaluation visits.
• Champion safety and sustainability by enforcing health and safety policies, ensuring compliance with ISO 26000 guidance, and supporting internal and external audits on legal, regulatory, and construction-related requirements.
• Identify project risks and underperforming contractors, recommending them for audit and driving improvements to processes, automation, and innovation in project delivery.

Requirements & Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field from a recognized institution.
• Professional certification in project management (PMP or PRINCE2) and registration as a Professional Engineer (PE/CE) with a recognized body such as the Engineers Board of Kenya or equivalent.
• Membership in a relevant professional institution (e.g., Institution of Engineers of Kenya).
• At least 7 years of progressive experience in M&E engineering and project management, including hands-on responsibility for design, supervision, contract management, and delivery of large-scale construction projects.
• Strong command of engineering design software such as AutoCAD, Civil 3D, Revit, Tekla Structures, STAAD.Pro, ETABS, SAP2000, Prokon, or SAFE.
• Proficiency with project management tools (Primavera P6, MS Project, Asana, Trello) and data analytics/reporting platforms (Power BI, Tableau, or advanced MS Excel).
• Working knowledge of international and local construction standards, including Eurocodes, BS, ACI, ASTM, and the Kenya Building Code.
• Demonstrated leadership and communication skills, with the ability to build trust and drive consensus among diverse stakeholders.
• Familiarity with sustainability practices, ISO standards, and experience in leading audits related to construction quality and organizational compliance.
