Programme Officer - Digital Futures Kenya

Role Overview

This position places you at the operational heart of a five-year initiative in Kenya that connects young people with disabilities—especially young women—to digital, IT, and entrepreneurship pathways leading to dignified work. You will coordinate training delivery, support partner organisations, link participants to employers, and ensure programme activities meet quality, safeguarding, and reporting standards. Your daily work directly advances inclusive economic participation and helps shape employer practices across the country.

Key Responsibilities

• Support the development and execution of annual work plans, budgets, and activity schedules, ensuring timely and coordinated delivery of programme components.
• Coordinate the rollout of digital, IT, and entrepreneurship training for young people with disabilities, working closely with training providers and delivery partners.
• Maintain regular communication with implementing partners to monitor progress, identify bottlenecks, and jointly resolve implementation challenges.
• Strengthen partner capacity on disability inclusion, gender equality, safeguarding, monitoring and evaluation, and inclusive employment pathways.
• Identify and approach potential employers, pitching the programme and building relationships that lead to mentorships, internships, and job placements for participants.
• Support financial monitoring by reviewing expenditure against approved budgets and ensuring compliance with donor and organisational financial policies.
• Collect, verify, and analyse programme data in line with the monitoring, evaluation, accountability, and learning (MEAL) framework, and contribute to donor reports and learning documentation.
• Conduct field visits, learner assessments, and partner supervision visits to track beneficiary progress and ensure inclusive, high-quality programme experiences.

Requirements & Qualifications

• A bachelor’s degree in social sciences, ICT, education, development studies, disability studies, business, or a related field.
• At least three to five years of demonstrable experience in project implementation within NGOs, INGOs, social impact programmes, skills development, or youth employment initiatives in Kenya.
• Proven working knowledge of disability inclusion, gender equality principles, and inclusive employment practices, with the ability to apply them across programme activities.
• Experience engaging with youth, TVET institutions, private sector employers, organisations of persons with disabilities (OPDs), and other project partners.
• Familiarity with digital skills training, entrepreneurship promotion, or labour market initiatives, including employer engagement and internship or job placement support.
• Knowledge of Kenyan policies and frameworks related to disability inclusion, digital transformation, and youth employment.
• Strong coordination, communication, and partnership-building skills, with the ability to work effectively in diverse teams and respect different perspectives.
• Good analytical, reporting, and documentation abilities, including proficiency in digital tools and project management systems.
• A willingness to undertake occasional national travel, with specific arrangements discussed at interview.
