Production Technician - 6HI Mill

Role Overview

This role is responsible for the hands-on operation and technical oversight of a 6HI cold rolling mill, ensuring production stays within approved parameters while meeting safety, quality, and output targets. The position serves as a key technical resource on the shift, diagnosing process and equipment issues, guiding operators, and coordinating with maintenance and engineering to minimise downtime. Success in this role directly supports stable mill performance, consistent product quality, and a safe working environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Operate and monitor the 6HI mill, adjusting process controls to keep production within approved limits and responding promptly to alarms or deviations.
• Coordinate equipment setup, calibration, and product changeovers, including mill start-up, shutdown, and recovery from abnormal operating conditions.
• Diagnose operational and mechanical faults, working with Maintenance and Engineering teams to restore equipment and prevent recurring issues.
• Verify product quality by checking rolling parameters, completing process checks, and addressing defects or deviations from specifications.
• Provide technical guidance and coaching to production operators on equipment operation, process parameters, and safe work practices.
• Uphold HSEQ requirements, including LOTOTO, PPE, guarding, and 6S housekeeping standards, and report hazards or incidents.
• Participate in continuous improvement activities such as TPM, Root Cause Analysis, Kaizen, and Operational Excellence initiatives.
• Maintain accurate records of process performance, quality checks, and maintenance activities, and support effective shift handovers.

Requirements & Qualifications

• Education: Diploma or equivalent technical qualification in mechanical, production, industrial, electrical, or mechatronics engineering.
• Experience: At least 3 years in a manufacturing or heavy industrial environment, with a minimum of 2 years specifically in cold rolling, metal processing, or production process control.
• Technical Skills: Knowledge of 6HI mill operations and cold rolling processes; ability to monitor and control process parameters, troubleshoot equipment, and interpret production data.
• Quality & Compliance: Understanding of quality control methods, defect identification, and management systems such as ISO 9001, ISO 14001, and ISO 45001.
• Problem-Solving: Experience with root cause analysis and structured problem-solving; exposure to TPM, 6S, autonomous maintenance, or Kaizen is beneficial.
• Systems Knowledge: Comfort with PLC-based control systems and industrial instrumentation; proficiency in Microsoft Office (especially Excel and Word) and production monitoring/reporting systems.
