In four years we've sold 1.6 million solar lights to off-grid families in South Asia and Africa— all paid for up-front, in cash— the latter 1 million customers acquired over the past year. Our products were recognized recently as 'the best solar lamp' in the Economist. Uniquely, we sell our life-changing Sun King solar home lights to off-grid families in India and Africa through a massive direct sales force of trusted, village-level sales agents that penetrate deeply into rural markets to promote our products home to home and build trust in our brand at a micro level. Today 5,000 active Saathis bring clean, safe light to 40,000 new off-grid homes each month. We're now expanding our distribution network from three states to the whole of rural India and East Africa, an under-penetrated market of half a billion emerging consumers. And we are releasing more trustworthy, aspirational products to keep our network busy. Specialties Rural marketing, Solar lighting, India, Africa View more View less

Job Description

Role Overview

This position centres on taking full ownership of the assembly operations for televisions and smartphones, from scheduling daily output to ensuring every unit meets strict quality and safety standards. You will be the key link between operators, technicians, and other departments, making sure production runs smoothly, targets are hit, and any disruptions are resolved quickly. Your leadership directly affects the efficiency of the factory floor, the reliability of the products shipped, and the continuous improvement of how the lines operate.

Key Responsibilities

  • Direct and manage the daily workflow on the assembly floor, including assigning staff, setting shift priorities, and adjusting schedules to meet output targets without compromising quality.
  • Track production data in real time—output, throughput, downtime, and defect rates—and use that information to spot bottlenecks and implement corrective actions.
  • Work closely with materials coordination teams to ensure parts and components are available for each assembly stage, anticipating shortages and resolving supply interruptions before they affect the line.
  • Enforce safety protocols and company policies across the department, carrying out regular checks and ensuring every team member follows proper handling and operating procedures.
  • Coach, train, and develop production operators and technicians, helping them raise their technical skills, understand quality expectations, and take ownership of their work stations.
  • Conduct structured performance reviews and provide concrete feedback, tackling performance issues and recognising strong contributors to keep the team motivated and accountable.
  • Collaborate with quality assurance and engineering teams to troubleshoot mechanical and electronic issues, refine assembly methods, and drive product quality improvements.
  • Lead and support Kaizen and continuous improvement initiatives, applying 6S principles to reduce waste, streamline layouts, and improve overall line efficiency.
  • Support New Product Introduction activities, including running trial batches, training operators on new build procedures, and providing feedback on manufacturability.
  • Prepare clear and accurate reports for upper management, summarising daily performance, key metrics, and any actions being taken to improve production outcomes.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • A degree in electrical/electronics engineering, manufacturing engineering, or industrial engineering.
  • At least five years of experience in the electronics manufacturing sector, with a minimum of two years in a supervisory or team-leading role.
  • Proven hands-on experience supervising assembly lines, ideally involving consumer electronics such as television and smartphone production.
  • Strong understanding of CKD/SKD assembly processes and how these fit into the broader production workflow.
  • Solid working knowledge of production planning, scheduling, inventory control, and material flow management.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead teams, make decisions under pressure, and solve problems using root cause analysis rather than quick fixes.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, comfortable interacting with operators, engineers, and senior leadership alike.
  • Working knowledge of quality management systems, lean manufacturing concepts, and occupational safety regulations.
  • Practical understanding of Kaizen and 6S methodologies and how to apply them on a daily basis.
  • Familiarity with assembly machinery, tooling, and proper electronic assembly procedures.
