Role Overview
The Roving Project Manager leads complex, organisation-wide initiatives commissioned by the CEO and Core Leadership Team, turning strategic decisions into coordinated work across teams and locations. By providing clear plans, resolving delivery obstacles and keeping leaders informed, the role helps Hivos achieve its transformation goals without losing momentum in day-to-day operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Scope and lead strategic projects, setting objectives, milestones, responsibilities, governance arrangements and delivery plans.
- Coordinate work across programmes, business development, external engagement, finance and information systems, people and culture, and administration.
- Track interdependencies, resources, risks and decisions; raise issues promptly and propose practical options to the CEO and Core Leadership Team.
- Guide organisational change linked to strategic reviews, operating-model adjustments, process redesign and digital transformation.
- Support delivery of the Ten for Ten Strategy and other priorities, encouraging adoption of new systems and ways of working.
- Create progress dashboards, performance measures and reporting routines; assess whether projects are producing their intended benefits.
- Bring stakeholders together through workshops and planning sessions, building alignment where priorities or interests differ.
- Identify opportunities to simplify processes, share lessons from completed initiatives and strengthen collaboration across the organisation.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant discipline, such as business administration, organisational development, project management, public administration or international development; a master’s degree is preferred.
- At least 8–10 years of relevant professional experience, including a minimum of 5 years leading complex cross-functional projects or organisational transformation.
- Track record of delivering strategic initiatives involving several teams, stakeholder groups or locations.
- Experience with organisational change, transformation, operating-model implementation or digital transformation.
- Confidence working with executive stakeholders and senior leadership teams, including influencing outcomes without direct authority.
- Strong capability in project planning, governance, risk management, delivery assurance and stakeholder coordination.
- Ability to analyse information and data, develop business cases, assess feasibility and connect project measures to strategic outcomes.
- Knowledge of strategic planning, change management, organisational development and innovation methods; familiarity with digital tools and knowledge-management practices is an advantage.
- Sound judgement and problem-solving skills, with the ability to manage ambiguity and competing demands.
- Excellent communication and relationship-building skills. Fluency in English is required; additional languages used in Hivos’ operating contexts are an asset.
- Experience in an international, mission-driven or civil society organisation is highly desirable.
