Role Overview
This position owns the day-to-day buying of solar equipment and non-agricultural farm inputs, making sure the right goods reach OAF warehouses on schedule, at a price that holds up against the market, and with documentation that passes scrutiny. The work sits at the intersection of commercial negotiation, cross-border logistics, and supplier performance, so the person in this seat is constantly balancing cost, speed, and quality without letting any one of them slip. Success here directly determines whether farmers and field teams have what they need when they need it — a late shipment or a quality miss is felt immediately in the field.
Key Responsibilities
- Hit category delivery and cost targets: sustain on-time, in-full delivery above 90%, keep landed cost of goods competitive against market benchmarks, capture at least 5% in savings, and hold quality standards steady throughout. Keep open purchase orders closing on time above an 80% rate and supplier payments flowing on schedule above 80%.
- Manage the landed-cost chain: coordinate taxes, duties, customs clearance, and freight movements, anticipating where disruption could occur and building contingencies so shipments still arrive when promised.
- Execute the sourcing strategy: run procurement for solar and non-agricultural product lines in line with the agreed category plan, translating strategy into purchase decisions and supplier commitments.
- Prevent and resolve failures: apply forward-looking risk mitigation, run root-cause analysis when something goes wrong, and communicate corrective action plans clearly to farmers, field teams, and internal stakeholders.
- Negotiate and contract: lead supplier negotiations and put purchasing frameworks and contracts in place that secure favourable payment terms, procurement flexibility, and strong value on quality goods.
- Own supplier relationships: build and maintain productive partnerships with upstream suppliers, represent OAF professionally in external meetings, track and report supplier performance to internal stakeholders, and push continuous improvement in how suppliers deliver.
- Keep inbound logistics and paperwork airtight: coordinate deliveries into OAF warehouses and confirm that every shipment carries correct, compliant documentation.
- Serve internal stakeholders and improve the process: communicate order and payment status proactively, resolve procurement-related inquiries and disputes, and work with key stakeholders to refine workflows — including market research to identify better sourcing options and proposals for trial or substitute products.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Solid grounding in supply chain and operations, with the practical judgement that comes from running procurement or sourcing work end to end.
- Working knowledge of importation policies and practices, including the customs, duty, and clearance mechanics that affect landed cost and delivery timelines.
- Strong analytical ability, sound decision-making, and proven negotiation skills — comfortable building the case for a sourcing decision and defending it.
- Demonstrated capacity to build and sustain relationships with suppliers and internal partners across functions and geographies.
- Clear interpersonal and written communication skills; able to deliver status updates and difficult news without losing trust.
- Proven ability to juggle multiple deadlines and competing priorities without dropping the ball.
- Sharp eye for detail and an organised working style that holds up under pressure.
- Typically around 3–5 years of relevant procurement, sourcing, or supply chain experience, plus a degree in supply chain management, procurement, logistics, business, or a comparable field — or equivalent hands-on experience in lieu of a formal qualification.
