Technical Mandate

We are seeking a highly skilled and proactive Plant Mechanic to join our technical team in Murang’a. The core objective of this role is to maximize the uptime and efficiency of all plant machinery, including conveyors, motors, compressors, and pumps. You will be responsible for the full lifecycle of equipment health—from executing rigorous preventive maintenance schedules and diagnosing complex mechanical faults to assisting in the installation of new industrial systems. This position is ideal for a hands-on engineer who thrives in a high-pressure manufacturing environment and is committed to upholding the highest standards of occupational safety and technical precision.

Key Deliverables

Preventive & Predictive Maintenance

  • Execute scheduled preventive maintenance across all mechanical systems to ensure compliance with manufacturer specifications.

  • Perform routine inspections of critical components, including hydraulic and pneumatic systems, to detect early signs of wear.

  • Manage the lubrication, calibration, and adjustment of moving parts to maintain optimal output levels and machine longevity.

  • Utilize specialized tools to monitor performance indicators, reducing the likelihood of unexpected equipment failure.

Diagnostic Excellence & Repair

  • Act as the first responder to machine breakdowns, providing rapid and accurate diagnosis of mechanical failures.

  • Execute precise repairs or component replacements to restore equipment functionality with minimal disruption to production.

  • Conduct thorough root cause analysis for recurring mechanical issues, proposing and implementing long-term technical solutions.

  • Test all machinery post-repair to confirm that performance standards and safety benchmarks are fully met.

Operational Support & Safety

  • Assist in the installation, setup, and commissioning of new plant machinery, ensuring proper calibration from day one.

  • Maintain meticulous maintenance logs, service records, and parts-usage reports for accountability and auditing.

  • Strictly adhere to Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures and all occupational health and safety (OHS) regulations.

  • Collaborate with electricians and machine operators to streamline plant workflows and share technical insights for continuous improvement.

Requirements & Competencies

Professional Background

  • Education: Diploma or Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related technical field.

  • Experience: Proven experience in plant maintenance or a busy manufacturing environment.

  • Technical Knowledge: Strong understanding of industrial mechanical systems, including hydraulics, pneumatics, and power transmission.

  • Documentation: Ability to accurately read and interpret complex technical drawings and manufacturer manuals.

Critical Skills

  • Diagnostic Ability: Exceptional problem-solving skills with a focus on mechanical fault-finding.

  • Attention to Detail: Meticulous approach to inspections and the recording of technical data.

  • Safety Consciousness: An uncompromising commitment to maintaining a hazard-free work environment.

  • Independence: Proven ability to manage maintenance schedules independently while contributing effectively to the wider technical team.

Incentives & Values

  • Competitive Technical Pay: A monthly salary of Kshs. 40,000.

  • Strategic Location: Work within the industrial landscape of Murang’a.

  • Professional Growth: Opportunity to work with diverse mechanical systems and participate in large-scale machinery installations.

If you have the mechanical expertise and diagnostic skills required to keep a plant running at peak efficiency, please submit your updated CV for the "Plant Mechanic - Murang’a" position. Ensure your experience with hydraulic systems and industrial maintenance is clearly highlighted.
