Role Overview

This is a senior clinical position for a qualified medical specialist who will take direct responsibility for diagnosing, treating, and managing patients referred with complex or specialist-level conditions. Working within a multi-disciplinary healthcare team, you will apply advanced clinical judgement to develop treatment plans, support junior medical staff, and maintain the high standards of safety, ethics, and patient-centred care expected of a registered specialist in Kenya. Your day-to-day work will combine scheduled consultations, ward or theatre duties, and collaboration with other departments, with the ultimate goal of improving patient outcomes and upholding the integrity of the medical profession.

Key Responsibilities

• Deliver specialist consultations, examinations, and comprehensive assessments to patients referred to your department, ensuring accurate diagnosis and evidence-based treatment planning.
• Prescribe, administer, and monitor appropriate medical interventions and follow-up care, adjusting plans as patients respond to treatment.
• Perform or assist in specialist procedures, surgeries, or interventions within your scope of practice and relevant postgraduate specialty.
• Collaborate with other medical officers, nurses, and allied health professionals to coordinate holistic, continuous care for both inpatients and outpatients.
• Document patient histories, clinical findings, treatment decisions, and outcomes clearly and accurately for medical records and continuity of care.
• Provide clinical guidance, mentorship, and supervision to medical officers, interns, and students during ward rounds and case discussions.
• Participate in clinical audit, morbidity and mortality reviews, and continuous quality improvement initiatives within the department.
• Counsel patients and their families with clarity and compassion, ensuring informed consent and shared decision-making throughout the care journey.

Requirements & Qualifications

• A recognised medical degree from an accredited institution, followed by a relevant postgraduate specialist qualification in your area of practice.
• Current and valid registration with the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council, together with an active practising licence.
• Demonstrated clinical competence gained through specialist training and practical experience, with the ability to manage complex cases independently.
• Strong professionalism and ethical judgement, consistently aligning clinical decisions with national guidelines and patient welfare.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, enabling effective interaction with patients, families, and healthcare colleagues at all levels.
• A genuine patient-first attitude, showing empathy, cultural sensitivity, and a commitment to providing equitable, non-discriminatory care.
• Proven ability to work collaboratively in a busy multidisciplinary team while remaining composed under pressure.
