Pharmacy Technologist

Role Overview

As a Pharmacy Technician, you will manage the day-to-day dispensing of medications under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist, ensuring every prescription is accurately filled and properly recorded. Your attention to detail directly supports patient safety and regulatory compliance in a fast-paced clinical environment. This role is essential to maintaining efficient inventory turnover and delivering clear, compassionate guidance to patients and healthcare colleagues alike.

Key Responsibilities

• Accurately interpret prescriptions and dispense medications in accordance with legal and professional standards under pharmacist supervision.
• Maintain meticulous patient records and prescription logs to support audit readiness and continuity of care.
• Monitor stock levels, check expiry dates, and coordinate with suppliers to avoid shortages or overstock of essential medicines.
• Receive, inspect, and store pharmaceutical supplies in strict compliance with cold-chain and storage guidelines.
• Provide patients and caregivers with clear verbal instructions on dosage, side effects, and safe storage of their medications.
• Prepare and label custom-dose packs, extemporaneous mixtures, or bulk orders as directed by the pharmacist.
• Handle cash or insurance transactions for prescription sales and issue receipts accurately.
• Keep the dispensary area clean, organised, and free of expired or recalled products at all times.

Requirements & Qualifications

• Diploma in Pharmacy Technology awarded by an accredited institution.
• Current registration and annual retention licence from the Pharmacy and Poisons Board (PPB).
• At least one year of hands-on dispensing experience in a high-volume hospital, clinic, or retail pharmacy.
• Demonstrated ability to implement proper drug storage, rotation, and inventory control procedures.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills in English and Swahili, with a patient-friendly demeanour.
• High level of accuracy in reading prescriptions, performing arithmetic calculations, and maintaining records.
• Capacity to collaborate effectively within a multidisciplinary team while managing competing priorities.
