Role Overview
This teaching position places you at the heart of an inquiry-led IB environment, where you will deliver both the Middle Years Programme and the Diploma Programme to students across a range of year groups. Day to day, you will design and adapt lessons that provoke curiosity, monitor learner progress through varied assessment, and play an active part in the wider school community through mentoring, enrichment and residential activities. Your work matters because it shapes not only academic outcomes but also the personal confidence and global outlook every student needs before moving on to university and beyond.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver MYP and Diploma Programme lessons with consistent quality, making certain that all syllabus requirements are met and every learner is appropriately stretched.
- Use a balanced set of formative and summative assessment tools to track understanding, diagnose gaps and provide feedback that moves learning forward.
- Engage actively with collaborative planning meetings, contributing ideas for interdisciplinary teaching, unit design and vertical alignment across the MYP and DP.
- Cultivate an inclusive classroom atmosphere where inquiry, risk-taking and respectful discussion are the norm, and where students feel safe to ask hard questions.
- Weave the institution's AK Strands into planning, teaching and daily interactions so that ethical reasoning, pluralism and other core values are visible in practice rather than just policy.
- Take responsibility for the smooth operation of learning resources, from maintaining the classroom library and lab equipment to guiding students toward appropriate digital tools.
- Supervise key IB components such as Internal Assessments, the Personal Project and Extended Essay, giving structured guidance and timely feedback throughout each process.
- Support the holistic growth of students through mentoring, pastoral care, enrichment trips and residential experiences, while flagging any academic or emotional concerns to the relevant mentor or Head of Year.
Requirements & Qualifications
- A bachelor's degree awarded by a recognised institution in a field relevant to the teaching assignment.
- A formal teaching qualification, such as a Bachelor of Education, Master of Education, or an equivalent postgraduate diploma in education from an accredited provider.
- Registration with the Kenya Teachers Service Commission (TSC), with a valid practising certificate or evidence of eligibility prior to appointment.
- Prior teaching experience within an international curriculum setting, especially IB programmes, is an added advantage and will be weighed favourably in shortlisting.
- Demonstrated ability to support non-specialist colleagues, whether through departmental mentoring, shared resources or co-planning.
- A student-centred classroom philosophy, strong organisational stamina, and a genuine commitment to developing the whole person.
