Role Overview
This position is centred on delivering rigorous, engaging instruction to university students while contributing to the institution’s academic standing through research and professional practice. The day-to-day work involves preparing and presenting lectures, designing assessments, guiding student research, and remaining actively connected to developments in your field. This role matters because it shapes the learning experience of graduates, supports the university’s quality standards, and bridges academic theory with real-world relevance.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and deliver lectures, seminars, and tutorials across assigned modules, ensuring content is current, clear, and intellectually challenging.
- Develop and regularly review course outlines, learning resources, and examination materials to align with institutional curriculum frameworks and industry expectations.
- Assess student performance through graded assignments, written exams, oral presentations, and practical tasks, providing timely and constructive feedback.
- Supervise undergraduate and postgraduate research projects, including final-year papers, dissertations, and theses, guiding students on methodology and academic writing.
- Actively conduct and publish original research in credible journals, or present findings at academic conferences, to strengthen both personal scholarship and the university’s research profile.
- Participate in departmental governance activities such as curriculum reviews, examination moderation, quality assurance panels, and academic committee meetings.
- Contribute to community outreach and professional engagement initiatives that extend the university’s impact and foster partnerships with external organisations.
- Where applicable, apply professional and industry experience to enrich teaching case studies, practicums, and applied research projects.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Hold a Master’s degree in the relevant discipline from an accredited university; a PhD in the field will be considered a notable advantage.
- Demonstrate credible and substantial university-level teaching experience, with evidence of effective delivery in both undergraduate and postgraduate programmes.
- Show relevant professional or industry experience in the area of specialisation, especially where such experience directly enhances applied teaching or research.
- Provide a clear record of scholarly output, research activity, or substantial professional engagement connected to the discipline.
- Meet all applicable requirements of the Commission for University Education (CUE) and any other regulatory or professional bodies governing higher education instruction in Kenya.
- Possess current registration or membership with the relevant professional or regulatory body, where such membership is mandatory for the field.
