Role Overview
This role focuses on delivering both theoretical and practical instruction within the Paediatric Paediatric Critical Care Nursing (PCCN) program. Day to day, the tutor coordinates learning activities, assesses student progress, and ensures that curriculum content aligns with Nursing Council of Kenya standards. The position matters because it directly shapes the competence of future paediatric critical care nurses, maintaining high clinical and educational benchmarks within the program.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan, deliver, and evaluate theoretical and clinical instruction for the Paediatric PCCN curriculum to help students master essential critical care skills.
- Coordinate all aspects of learning activities, including scheduling lectures, simulations, and clinical placements.
- Monitor and document student performance to ensure instructional standards are met and provide feedback to support improvement.
- Develop, review, and update course materials and assessments in line with Nursing Council regulations and current best practices in paediatric critical care.
- Conduct theory tests, practical examinations, and skills check-offs to evaluate student competency and assignment completion.
- Maintain clinical proficiency by engaging in regular practice and staying current with paediatric emergency and critical care protocols.
- Participate actively in quality improvement initiatives, clinical audits, and research projects to enhance the educational program and patient care outcomes.
- Take ownership of professional development, seeking relevant training and certifications to remain effective as an educator and clinician.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from a recognized institution.
- Higher Diploma in Paediatric Critical Care Nursing.
- A certificate as a TVET trainer is considered an added advantage.
- A certificate in EPALS or PALS is also an added advantage.
- Valid Nursing Council of Kenya Practising Licence and current Registration Certificate.
- Minimum of one year working experience as a Tutor in a recognized nursing training program.
- Certificate of Good Conduct from the relevant authority.
