Paediatric Critical Care Lecturer

Role Overview

The Paediatric PCCN Tutor leads both classroom and clinical learning for nurses specialising in paediatric critical care. In this position, you will teach essential theory, supervise hands-on practice, track learner progress, and keep the curriculum aligned with Nursing Council of Kenya standards. Your work directly shapes the competence and confidence of nurses who care for critically ill children, and it strengthens the overall quality of the training programme.

Key Responsibilities

• Deliver theoretical instruction in paediatric critical care nursing, covering core physiological, pharmacological, and assessment concepts relevant to critically ill infants and children.
• Coordinate clinical learning activities, including rotations, skills sessions, and supervised practice, so students apply theory safely in paediatric critical care settings.
• Observe and evaluate students during clinical practice, providing immediate feedback, coaching, and remediation where gaps in competence appear.
• Design, administer, and mark theory examinations, practical assessments, and assignments, then use results to judge each learner’s overall progress.
• Monitor student performance records and uphold consistent instructional and assessment standards across the programme.
• Develop, review, and update curriculum content and learning materials to meet Nursing Council of Kenya requirements and current paediatric critical care evidence.
• Maintain personal clinical competence by regularly practising in paediatric critical care and completing continuing professional development.
• Participate in quality improvement programmes, clinical audits, and research activities that enhance teaching and patient care outcomes.

Requirements & Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BScN).
• Higher Diploma in Paediatric Critical Care Nursing.
• Valid Practise Licence from the Nursing Council of Kenya.
• Registration Certificate from the Nursing Council of Kenya.
• Minimum of one year of experience working as a Tutor.
• Certificate of Good Conduct.
• A TVET trainer certificate is an added advantage.
• EPALS or PALS certification is an added advantage.
• Strong command of paediatric critical care theory, clinical skills, assessment methods, and curriculum development, with excellent communication and mentoring abilities for teaching and supervising students.
