Job Description
Role Overview
This mental health nurse provides assessment and ongoing psychiatric support, helping identify student needs early and respond safely when someone is in crisis. The role also supports a more informed campus community through mental health awareness and coordinated care with counselling staff and external providers.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct initial mental health screenings and assess risks to determine appropriate next steps.
- Provide timely nursing support during acute psychiatric episodes and emotional crises.
- Administer prescribed psychotropic medication and monitor care in line with clinical instructions.
- Coordinate with counsellors and off-site mental health professionals to support continuity of care.
- Promote mental health awareness among students, faculty and staff.
- Keep health records complete, accurate and confidential.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Higher National Diploma in Nursing, specialising in Mental Health and Psychiatry, or an equivalent qualification.
- Current registration with the Nursing Council of Kenya.
- At least five years of relevant work experience.
- Evidence of continuing professional development.
- Knowledge of information and communication technology.
- A bachelor’s degree in a relevant field is an added advantage.
