Job Description

Role Overview

In this campus-based nursing role, you will be the first clinical contact for students seeking medical care, handling everything from routine assessments to urgent situations. Your day-to-day work directly supports student retention and academic success by keeping the university community healthy, informed, and safe. You will operate with a high degree of autonomy while collaborating with other health professionals to deliver consistent, compassionate primary care.

Key Responsibilities

  • Triage students, record vital signs, and perform focused clinical assessments to determine urgency and appropriate next steps.
  • Deliver nursing treatment, administer prescribed medications, and carry out follow-up care for acute and chronic health concerns.
  • Respond immediately to on-campus medical emergencies, providing first aid and basic life support until advanced help arrives.
  • Maintain accurate, confidential patient records and prepare medical reports and health statistics in line with regulatory and ethical standards.
  • Offer health education, counselling, and practical guidance on preventive care, nutrition, sexual health, and healthy lifestyle choices.
  • Support the delivery of immunisation drives, health screening events, wellness campaigns, and other preventive health programmes.
  • Coordinate referrals to external specialists or hospitals and track patient follow-up to ensure continuity of care.
  • Monitor medical supplies, equipment, and consumables, ensuring they are available, properly used, and safe for patient care.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Diploma in Nursing from a recognised and accredited institution.
  • At least two years of relevant post-qualification nursing experience.
  • Current registration with the Nursing Council of Kenya, a valid practising licence, and good professional standing.
  • Demonstrated commitment to patient-centred care, professionalism, confidentiality, and ethical nursing practice.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for interacting with students, colleagues, and external healthcare providers.
  • Strong clinical assessment and emergency response abilities, including basic life support.
