Job Description

Role Overview

This elementary music teacher creates a flexible music program and classroom where students grow musically, academically, and personally. The role combines daily music instruction, instrument coaching, performance preparation, and ongoing communication with families and colleagues. It matters because music becomes a practical way to help students build confidence, discipline, and a commitment to serving their community as strong, ethical young women.

Key Responsibilities

  • Teach elementary music lessons that cover rhythm, singing, listening, and instrument basics, with activities adapted to different ages and skill levels.
  • Provide individual and small-group instrument coaching, ensemble practice, and performance preparation so students can develop and showcase their talents.
  • Prepare students for music and drama festival competitions, including rehearsals, repertoire selection, and stage presentation.
  • Write lesson plans and create instructional materials, then translate those plans into hands-on learning experiences using a variety of teaching strategies.
  • Establish and maintain clear classroom behavior expectations so students can learn and perform in a focused, respectful environment.
  • Evaluate students’ academic, musical, and social growth, keep accurate records, prepare progress reports, and communicate regularly with parents or guardians.
  • Work with other staff to identify and address student health, attitude, and learning concerns, and administer group standardized tests in line with school and national testing requirements.
  • Select and request books and instructional aids, maintain required inventory records, supervise students during out-of-class activities, and participate in curriculum development, faculty committees, and student activity sponsorship.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Diploma or degree in Education with a Music specialization, or a P1 certificate combined with a genuine passion for music and the ability to teach it effectively.
  • Practical ability to teach music to elementary students, including instrument instruction, singing, and performance preparation.
  • Knowledge of Competency-Based Education (CBE) and Creative Arts is an added advantage.
  • Registration with the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) is required.
  • Strong classroom management, parent communication, record-keeping, and collaboration skills.
  • Ability to plan lessons, manage instructional materials, and work with colleagues on student development and school activities.

Why Join

This position offers the chance to shape a flexible elementary music program and help students discover what they can achieve through practice and performance. Your work will support young learners as they build confidence, discipline, and a sense of responsibility to their community—qualities that will serve them well as future leaders.
