Role Overview
As a Medical Scientific Liaison within Roche's Diagnostics business in Nairobi, you will serve as the bridge between the company's scientific evidence and the clinical community that uses its diagnostic solutions. Your daily work involves translating complex medical literature and product data into clear, practical insights for physicians, laboratory professionals, and researchers — while also feeding frontline clinical observations back into Roche's strategic planning. This role matters because it directly shapes how diagnostic tools are understood, adopted, and applied in real-world patient care across the region.
Key Responsibilities
- Evaluate and interpret medical literature, clinical study designs, and published outcomes, then translate these findings into actionable scientific and clinical messaging for internal teams and external stakeholders.
- Design and deliver educational workshops, seminars, and training sessions for physicians, laboratory technologists, and scientists focused on the clinical utility of Roche diagnostic tests within relevant disease areas.
- Act as the primary clinical and scientific contact for Roche Diagnostics within your assigned geography, building trusted relationships with regional key opinion leaders and demonstrating how specific products improve clinical outcomes.
- Contribute to the planning and execution of clinical trials, investigator-initiated studies, or other research initiatives by providing scientific input and identifying suitable clinical partners.
- Represent Roche at national and international scientific congresses and clinical conferences, staying current on evolving practices, guidelines, and regulatory frameworks in laboratory medicine and diagnostics.
- Organise and manage advisory boards and other forums that bring together expert clinical opinion to inform product strategy, evidence generation, and educational priorities.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to align local medical tactics with global and regional plans, and take responsibility for project management including budget oversight for assigned initiatives.
- Ensure all activities comply with applicable healthcare laws, ICH-GCP guidelines, and Roche's quality and good promotional practice standards, while supporting the refinement of standard operating procedures.
Requirements & Qualifications
- A medical degree (MBChB) or a Master's degree in a clinical or biomedical science field is required.
- At least five years of experience in health sciences or an equivalent combination, with substantial prior experience as a Medical Scientific Liaison.
- Strong working knowledge of healthcare laws and regulations, good clinical practice (ICH-GCP), and the regulatory environment affecting diagnostic products.
- In-depth medical and scientific knowledge of relevant therapeutic areas and the ability to critically appraise complex clinical data.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the capacity to engage a wide range of stakeholders—from laboratory scientists to senior clinicians.
- Proven ability to plan strategically, manage multiple projects, and work effectively within cross-functional teams.
