Job Description

Role Overview

This volunteer role places you at the heart of community health efforts, where your day-to-day work directly contributes to better health outcomes and stronger local support systems. You will help design, coordinate, or implement healthcare initiatives alongside local teams, while also preparing carefully for each field placement or remote project to ensure your impact is both meaningful and sustainable. Your service helps build a lasting legacy by empowering communities to take charge of their own wellbeing.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in planning and delivering community health education sessions, screenings, or outreach campaigns tailored to local needs.
  • Support clinical or public health staff with patient intake, health records, and follow-up communication in a respectful and confidential manner.
  • Help identify barriers to healthcare access and work with community leaders to develop practical, culturally appropriate solutions.
  • Contribute to remote health projects by preparing digital materials, coordinating virtual workshops, or conducting research and data analysis.
  • Participate in pre-placement training, cultural orientation, and safety briefings to ensure you are fully prepared for your assignment.
  • Document your activities, challenges, and outcomes to support program evaluation and continuous improvement.
  • Act as a community liaison, building trust and encouraging participation from diverse groups in health-related programs.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Demonstrated interest in public health, community development, or a related field, with at least one year of volunteer or professional experience in a similar setting.
  • Strong interpersonal and cross-cultural communication skills, including the ability to listen actively and adapt to different community contexts.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, showing flexibility in roles and responsibilities that may shift based on community needs.
  • Basic digital literacy for data entry, report writing, and virtual collaboration tools; experience with telehealth or remote training platforms is a plus.
  • Willingness to undergo a background check and complete required health, safety, and ethics training before starting the assignment.
  • A high school diploma or equivalent; post-secondary education in nursing, social work, health promotion, or public health is preferred but not required.
  • Commitment to a specified term of service, whether full-time for a field placement or a defined number of hours per week for a remote project.

What We Offer / Why Join

Volunteering here is a life-changing decision that provides rich rewards beyond the immediate scope of work. You gain hands-on experience in healthcare delivery, develop cultural humility, and build relationships that last long after your service term ends. The organisation provides structured preparation, ongoing guidance, and a supportive network to help you succeed.
